Dear Beagle Middle School Parents,

As this will be our last newsletter for this school year, we wanted to give a huge shout-out to all of our Beagle parents for their support this school year.  As we all know, it takes a village to raise a child, and we could not educate and support our future generations without the amazing support of our parents.  Again, thank you for your continued support! We wish our rising 9th-grade families well as they progress to high school, and we look forward to working with our rising 8th-grade families next year.

Before we close out for the summer, here are some updates we wanted to share:

Big, Fun Day: Tomorrow is a half-day, and students will be engaging outside in several different activities, including a variety of inflatables.  Students are not allowed to bring backpacks with them tomorrow, and this has been announced over the past few days during morning and lunch announcements.  Students are released at 10:50 am tomorrow.  We thank our PTO for providing several snacks for tomorrow along with our PBIS team for hosting this end-of-year event for our students.

Everson Guild Recipients: Last week on Friday, we held our Everson Guild award ceremony in conjunction with our end-of-trimester Comet PRIDE celebration.  Everson attended Hayes Middle School from 2015-2017, and tragically passed away in the summer of 2017 before his freshman year.  He was compassionate, encouraging, determined and always a friend.  Most of all, Everson was a vibrant spirit who was proud to be a Comet.  For the past six school years, we have intentionally celebrated one 7th and 8th grade student that demonstrated similar Comet PRIDE qualities that Everson demonstrated on a consistent basis.  This year, our staff nominated Redha Ashgar, 7th grade, and Maansi Budapanahalli, 8th grade, to receive the Everson Guild Award.  We congratulate both Redha and Maansi on this accomplishment, and we thank them for their leadership in consistently demonstrating Comet PRIDE.

Thank you, Mr. Eric Leopold; Welcome, Mrs. Kelly Shumway:  Mr. Eric Leopold, our current assistant principal, will be transitioning over the summer to be the head principal at Hayes Intermediate next year as Mrs. Kelly Smith will be retiring.  We thank Kelly Smith for her years of service and dedication to Grand Ledge Public Schools. We also thank Eric for being an outstanding assistant principal at the middle level for the past four years!  We wish him the best of luck in the next chapter of his career. We also welcome Mrs. Kelly Shumway, current Beagle Science and STEM teacher, into her new role as assistant principal next school year.  Kelly, being a veteran teacher, has been an outstanding teacher-leader here at Beagle, and we are excited for her transition into her new role.

Medication Pick Up: The deadline for medication pickup is June 21st, 2023 by 2:00 pm. After this deadline, all medication will be disposed of. If your child will need medications at school for the 2023/24 school year, you can get that paperwork then as well. That will give you time to get all required physician signatures by the start of the school year. After school gets out on June 16th, we will be available from 10 o’clock to 2 o’clock for medical pick-up on June 19th, 20th, and 21st.  Please be aware that students ARE NOT allowed to transport medication home on the bus.

Schedules: Student schedules have been built for next year, but they will not be viewable to students and parents in PowerSchool until the week of August 21st in case of any logistic or staffing changes that may happen over the summer.

Office Hours for June:  Our office will be open next week June 19-23rd from 8 am-3pm.

Office Hours for August: Our office will open back up the week of August 7th, and our hours will be 8 am-3 pm.

My Desk:  I will continue to work through June 23rd, and then I will be stepping away for the summer to travel with my family, and I will also be stepping away from emails.  I will return to my office on Monday, August 7th, and I will begin to respond to emails consistently from that point forward.  If you need immediate assistance over the summer, please call Central Office at (517) 925-5400; please note that Central Office is also closed the first two weeks of July.

7th Grade Schedule Pick-Up and School Pictures: Wednesday, August 23rd from 4-7 pm.  Students will have the opportunity to obtain their schedule, chromebook, and have school pictures taken.  Please note there will be another opportunity for school pictures during the school year if students/parents cannot make the schedule pick-up session.

8th Grade Schedule Pick-Up and School Pictures: Thursday, August 24th from 4-7 pm.  Students will have the opportunity to obtain their schedule, chromebook, and have school pictures taken.  Please note there will be another opportunity for school pictures during the school year if students/parents cannot make the schedule pick-up session.

Again, thank you for another great year, and we hope that you and your family have a wonderful summer!

Take care,

Dave, Eric, and Kelly
