April 21, 2023
Dear Beagle Middle School Parents,
Here are some important updates we wanted to pass along:
Spring Dance–Friday, April 21st: Our Spring Dance, hosted by our PTO, will be tomorrow, April 21st from 6:30-8:30 pm. Tickets will be sold for $15 during both lunches tomorrow to only Beagle students; students that purchase tickets will be provided a wristband. Once provided a wristband, students are expected to immediately wear the wristband; this helps with the flow of things and ensures the safety of our students. Students cannot purchase multiple dance tickets; they may only purchase their own tickets. Tickets will also be sold at the door, beginning at 6:25 pm. Students that have received formal discipline (ISS or OSS for a half-day or more) from April 3rd forward are not allowed to attend the dance. Doors will open at 6:25, and students will be released from the cafeteria at 8:30 pm. Students must have a ride home from the dance; students cannot walk home. We appreciate parent support here in ensuring the safety of our students.
Spring Dance Parent Support–A Message from our PTO: We are still looking for chaperones to work the Spring Fling Dance. If you plan to be at the dance you will need to sign up to chaperone. You will NOT be allowed in the building without completing the district volunteer form and will need to show your ID at the door before being allowed in the building. Here is the link for you to complete your volunteer registration: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/60b0b4eacaa22a31-beagle2#/. We thank our parents, in advance, for helping to chaperone this great opportunity for our students.
District-Wide Logo, A Message from Dr. Barnes: Don’t forget, one of the goals in our strategic plan is to create a symbol or logo, that we can use throughout the district to highlight our commitment to creating a safe and welcoming place for all of our students, staff, families, and community members. To those end, we have put together a design contest for students. Information about the contest can be found here: GLPS District Wide Inclusive Logo Contest.pdf, or on flyers that can be found in our school buildings. Please encourage your student to submit an entry; it may be the one that is chosen to be displayed throughout the district!
Grand Ledge Robotics Club Spring Open House: The Grand Ledge Robotics Club Open House will be hosted on May 11th, 7 pm, at the Sawdon Administration building. Please click here for more information: 2023 Spring Open House Flyer.pdf
MSTEP Testing 8th Grade: Because our 8th graders just took the PSAT and the MSTEP testing window is very long, we will not engage in MSTEP testing (Social Studies and Science) for our 8th graders until the week of May 8th.
MSTEP Testing 7th Grade: 7th-grade MSTEP testing for ELA and Math will be spread across two weeks beginning May 2nd. 7th graders will take the ELA MSTEP beginning May 2nd; they will engage in the Math MSTEP beginning May 9th.
Spring NWEA Testing: Spring NWEA testing will take place across two days: May 15th (ELA) and May 23rd (Math). We will use the same format as we did in the winter: NWEA testing the AM followed by an altered schedule in the PM.
May 17th–7th Grade Lugnuts, 8th Grade Activities at Beagle: 7th graders will be heading to the Lansing Lugnuts School Day on May 17th; permission slips and money are due in Science class tomorrow. The cost for the entire trip is $21, and this includes lunch at the stadium. If your family needs assistance for the cost of this trip, please contact our counselors, Ms. Driscoll email@example.com or Mrs. Weaver firstname.lastname@example.org. We are actively planning fun, engaging activities here at Beagle for our 8th graders on the 17th as well; we will share more information in subsequent newsletters. We are looking forward to the 17th for our students as it will be a nice break from all of the standardized testing that comes each year in the spring!
Kona Ice: Kona Ice will be visiting Beagle several times over the remainder of the school year. Students have a chance to purchase a sweet treat as part of their nutritious school lunch. Prices range from $4 to $7. All proceeds go to support Beagle PBIS programs and rewards. Look for Kona Ice on Monday, April 24th, and then again on the following Fridays: May 5th, May 19th, June 2nd and June 16th.
Joint Hayes/Beagle PTO Meetings: The next PTO meeting will be held on Tuesday, May 9th at 6:30 pm. We welcome parents to attend our PTO meetings either in person here at Beagle or virtually. If interested in attending virtually, here is the link: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/82744686994
