Dear Beagle Middle School Families,

Here are some updates we wanted to share with you at this time:

Quiz Bowl: Recently, our teachers squared off in a quiz bowl competition with our student quiz bowl team, led by Ms. Tracy Smith.  It was an outstanding competition, and our students and staff were celebrated on WILX news 10!

Education Excellence Award: This week, Mrs. Erin Fredericks, Art teacher, received an Education Excellence Award during the school board meeting, which included a $2,500 check from both SET SEG and MASB.  Mrs. Fredericks received this award in recognition of the Art/STEAM Showcase that she orchestrated last year.  This year’s Art/STEAM Showcase will be held on May 16th from 6-7:30 pm, and we encourage our community member to attend this event.  The donation from the SET SEG and MASB will go to supporting this event.  We want to thank SET SEG and MASB for their generous donation, and we also wanted to thank Mrs. Frederick’s for continuing to provide outstanding opportunities for our students and the community.

Band and Choir Festivals: A huge shout out to all of our Band and Choir students along with Mrs. Burton and Mrs. Zerman for their performances at festival over the past two weeks!  Our students did an excellent job and earned high scores.  Thank you to our parents that also supported this event.

Track Team Parent Meeting: There will be a parent track meeting on Tuesday, March 19th at 6 pm here in the media center.  Coach Dan Brunk, current Hayes teacher, along with other coaching staff will provide parents with information.  Practices will begin after Spring Break on Monday, April 1st.  Athletes must have a physical on file dated on or after April 15th, 2023.

Reminder–No School for 7th Graders on April 10th: 7th graders will not be coming to school on Wednesday, April 10th as our 8th grade students will be engaging in PSAT testing.

Rising 8th-Grade Families: We had a successful Elective Roadshow with our rising 8th-grade students on Wednesday during Science classes.  During the presentation, students were directed to take the elective course description packet home to make their elective requests in consultation with their family members; students will be turning in these worksheets to their Science teachers tomorrow.  This year, we created a paper form to help simplify the process for both choosing elective requests, and then placing them into PowerSchool next week on Tuesday with the support of their Science teachers.  For students absent next week, Science teachers will circle back to them after break to help them enter their requests into PowerSchool for next year.

Rising 7th-Grade Families, Current Hayes 6th Graders: On April 9th, we will head over to Hayes Intermediate to meet with our rising 7th-grade students for the Elective Roadshow.  This is a great opportunity for us to connect with our rising 7th-grade students and to explain how our daily schedule works.  During this time, we will also review our elective offerings, discuss how to make elective requests, and how those requests will be entered into PowerSchool with the support of the Hayes team. Students will receive an all-in-one document that includes elective course descriptions along with a worksheet where students can pencil in their elective course requests under the guidance of their parents.

PTO Meetings: On Tuesday, March 19th, the Hayes/Beagle PTO meeting will be hosted here at Beagle Middle School in room 107 from 6:30-7:30 pm due to other activities going on in our media center. We are also voting on officers in April, so please attend this upcoming meeting if you are interested in holding an officer position for our PTO.  Parents should enter through the cafeteria doors as they are open for athletic events.Families interested in attending virtually can do so by using this link:  We greatly appreciate parent support and participation at these meetings.  In addition, please follow the Hayes & Beagle PTO Facebook page for more information and updates regarding upcoming events.

  • March 18th–Third trimester begins
  • March 22-29th–Spring Break, no classes

Spring Testing Schedule:
In an effort to be as transparent as possible while also providing our families with as much notice in advance, we will continue to run our Spring Testing (PSAT, MSTEP, and NWEA) in our subsequent newsletters.  We kindly ask parents to avoid scheduling appointments, if possible, on these dates in an effort to ensure smooth testing and having to avoid pulling students from classes (first, best instruction) to make up these assessments.

  • PSAT–April 10th, 8th grade only reports this day; 7th grade does not come to school.  This is due to testing protocols required by College Board. More information to come as we get closer.
  • 8th grade MSTEP Social Studies–April 17/18
  • 8th grade MSTEP Science–April 24/25
  • 7th grade MSTEP Math–May ½
  • 7th grade MSTEP ELA–May 8/9
  • NWEA Math–May 21 (with organized break by hallway and snacks)
  • NWEA ELA–May 28 (with organized break by hallway and snacks)

Take care,

Dave and Kelly
