Welcome Back to the 2025-2026 School Year!
What a wonderful start to the school year! It has been such a joy to welcome your children into our classrooms and see their excitement for learning. Thank you for entrusting us with your child’s education.

Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports (PBIS) at Wacousta
This week, our students rotated through different areas of the building to learn about our school-wide expectations for behavior. These lessons are part of our Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports (PBIS) program. PBIS is designed to promote and maximize both academic achievement and positive behavior. At Wacousta, we take pride in creating a safe and inclusive learning environment where all students thrive.
At the heart of PBIS at Wacousta is our OPEN acronym:
O – Open
P – Protective
E – Engaged
N – Neighborly
These words guide our expectations for how students act in every area of the school, including the cafeteria, hallways, playground, restrooms, and classrooms. Students practiced what each of these looks like in real situations, and they will continue to revisit them throughout the year.
How parents can help: You can support PBIS at home by talking with your child about the OPEN expectations. For example, ask:
“How can you be open to trying something new at school or at home?”
“What does being protective of yourself and others look like on the playground?”
“How do you stay engaged when learning gets challenging?”
“What are some ways to be neighborly at home or in the community?”
These conversations create consistency between home and school and celebrate the positive choices your child is making every day. Together, we can continue to build a safe and supportive learning environment for every Comet. Thank you for supporting Wacousta expectations.
As we head into the long weekend, I hope you enjoy extra time with family and friends. We’ll see everyone back at school next Tuesday, ready for another great week!
