GLPS Families,

As the calendar rolls into May and our last full month of school, learning continues in all of our buildings! I appreciate all of those who joined our capital projects planning forums over the last couple of weeks. Stay tuned; next week, we will send out information to those who were not able to make it and ask for feedback.

Speaking of feedback, I am looking for input from families and students on our district wellness policies and practices. We want to make sure we are supporting the whole child, which means paying attention not only to academic programming but also to how our students, staff, and families experience all aspects of our district. Per board policy 8510, GLPS is required to annually appoint a wellness committee to review our policy and provide feedback on the district’s wellness programs. Given the required participation and size, this committee will not meet, but will instead provide me with feedback asynchronously, which I will compile and share with the board later this spring.

To those ends, the committee will operate in the following way:

  1. I will send the wellness policy and a survey about the district’s wellness program to all members of the committee.
  2. Committee members will have a couple of weeks to respond to the survey through a Google Form.
  3. I will compile all of the feedback into a set of Google Slides to share back with the group, the board governance committee, and the full board.
  4. I will present any recommended policy changes to the board governance committee to consider and recommend to the whole board.
  5. I will share the slides and all final recommendations with the entire board of education.
  6. I will share the information with our district leadership team.

So, if you are interested in sharing your thoughts on our district wellness programming, now is your chance to do it! If you or your child would like to be a part of this asynchronous committee and provide GLPS with feedback, please take a moment to fill out this form. Please note that if you and your child would each like to be included, you will need to fill out the form twice. It will close on Friday, May 8th. If you register, you can expect the policy and survey to be sent to you by Tuesday, May 12th.

As always, we value your thoughts and input as we strive to constantly improve programming. We appreciate the opportunity to work with you and your children every day, and we are thankful that we get to serve all of Comet Country. Thank you; I am #proudtobeacomet!
