Hello GLPS Families,

I have a couple of calendar corrections to share – both were mistakes I made when adding information to the calendar, and I apologize for that.  The most current school calendar should now have "Updated August 11, 2025" on the bottom.

  • August 21’s Kindergarten Open House time to 4:30 - 6:00 (instead of 6:30)
  • October 3’s high school conferences are in-person (not virtual)

We have heard many ask, "Are school meals free to students this year?"  Well, here's what we know so far.

  • An August 7, 2025, memo from the Michigan Department of Education clarified that the Michigan School Meals program is currently funded through September 30, 2025, as part of the state fiscal year 2025 budget passed last year.
  • GLPS will offer free meals to students at least through September 30, 2025, as part of the Michigan School Meals program.
  • GLPS will have a better idea about the future of the Michigan School Meals program and whether free meals will be provided to students once the state government agrees on a new budget (for the state fiscal year 2026).
  • GLPS will communicate more about school meals as we learn more.

In the meantime, you can DO YOUR PART, CHECK THE CHART – your family might qualify for education and meal benefits.  The table below is from our Education & Meals Benefit Application.  The application helps our schools get state and federal funding for education programs.  This application must be completed annually in order to qualify for the education and meal benefits that help both your family and the school district.  So please take a moment and review the table in this message.

Additional Benefits

If you think you might qualify, please complete the Education & Meals Benefit Application.  The information collected is used to provide services and benefits beyond just school meals – it ensures students get all the benefits they are entitled to AND maximizes state and federal funding for GLPS. Without it, GLPS could lose critical funding for educational programs that help our students.

By completing the Education & Meals Benefit Application, your child may also qualify for other benefits such as:

  • Programs that assist with school fees, including the test fees for Advanced Placement courses
  • School sports fees waived
  • Programs that provide food support
  • Potential household support for internet & cable
  • Summer EBT money

The Education & Meals Benefit Application is located at https://grandledge.familyportal.cloud

Click on "Apply For Benefits" to start your application.

Paper applications are also available in all school offices or by calling the food service office at 517-925-5733.

If you have any questions, please get in touch with our GLPS Food Service Manager Darrin Gyurich at 517-925-5733.
