Hello GLPS Families & Staff,

Eaton County Superintendents – including Grand Ledge Public Schools Superintendent Bill Barnes – agreed to share this message regarding K-12 school funding today.  Superintendents from numerous other mid-Michigan school districts are sharing similar messages with their families today as well.

I sent a "GLPS Update on School Meals" on August 12, 2025.  In it, I shared, "GLPS will have a better idea about the future of the Michigan School Meals program and whether free meals will be provided to students once the state government agrees on a new budget (for the state fiscal year 2026).  GLPS will communicate more about school meals as we learn more."  I have no new information to report regarding school meals.  So, GLPS will offer free meals to students at least through September 30, 2025, as part of the Michigan School Meals program, and we await a new budget to learn more.

In the meantime, you can DO YOUR PART, CHECK THE CHART – your family might qualify for education and meal benefits.  The table below is from our Education & Meals Benefit Application.  The application helps our schools get state and federal funding for education programs.  It must be completed annually in order to qualify for the education and meal benefits that help both your family and the school district.  So please take a moment and review the table in this message.
