GLPS Families,
As we head into the last weekend of October and look ahead to November, we need to pause to acknowledge the loss to our school community this week. All of our students matter, and we love and care about them, and there is nothing more difficult than losing one of our Comets. Our hearts and thoughts are with the family, friends, and community who are hurting, and with all of Comet Country as we experience this loss together. I also want to share my deep gratitude for our staff and crisis response team, who stepped up immediately with steady care and compassion to help our students navigate this heartbreaking loss.
That deep sense of community support is present not only in how we walk through difficult times together, but also in how we show up to lift up our kids. Coming together for shared traditions gives us a chance to lean on one another, and that togetherness will be on full display today and throughout this weekend. This comes out in the events and celebrations that are a part of our broader school culture, which will be on display in a variety of ways today and throughout this weekend. This afternoon, we are supporting a ribbon-cutting ceremony at Delta Mills Early Childhood Center for the new Delta Township walking path this afternoon, as the path winds its way through district property in front of Delta Mills. This afternoon we will also host our annual Halloween parades at our elementary schools, which are always a fun school event for the kids and their families, as folks pack the parade routes to cheer on their kids. Carrying that theme forward, tonight is the Bridge Street Trick or Treat community event, where well over a thousand kids will visit local businesses handing out candy and treats. Keep an eye out for the Grand Ledge Public Schools table near Flour Child if you come down to the event. After Bridge Street Trick-or-Treating, our 9-0 varsity football team is hosting a home playoff game against the Rockford Rams, looking to extend their winning streak and move one step closer to another championship. To round out the weekend, tomorrow we are hosting the MCBA State Championship Preliminary Competition (Flight I & Flight IV) at the Community Stadium, where our incredible marching band will continue on their road to a championship as well. In addition to these major events that bring our community together, there is a wide variety of other activities and athletics in which our kids and families participate.
When we think about our mission of Growing Learners and Preparing Students, we have to consider the whole child. This means we focus on academic growth and development, but we also focus on health and wellbeing, and understanding that we are part of a broader community. As we navigate a loss, and bring Comet Country together through the events scheduled throughout the weekend, it gives us an opportunity to support one another, remind all of our Comets that we care about them, and lean into the gratitude that comes from being a part of such an amazing school district. Thank you, as always, for giving us the chance to help your children grow every day. I truly appreciate the opportunity to lead and learn here in Comet Country. In good times and challenging ones, I am #proudtobeacomet.
