Dear Beagle Middle School Families,
We had another outstanding week here at Beagle! Students continue to do an outstanding job demonstrating Comet PRIDE in all that they do, and we continue to celebrate their success by reinforcing this both in the classroom and during lunch announcements. Please encourage your student(s) to keep up the great work as it takes a community to support all learners. We also greatly appreciate the support of our families with morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up as the parking lot has been flowing seamlessly this week. Students will have an opportunity to cash in their Comet PRIDE tickets tomorrow during both lunches at our Comet Pride Store; they are excited!
As we get ready to head into the weekend, here are some updates we wanted to share:
NWEA Testing: Our Fall NWEA testing will take place on Wednesday, September 11th for ELA and Wednesday, September 18th for Math this year. On NWEA testing days, we run an adjusted schedule with students reporting to their CNC class for the morning (7:50-10:42) to complete NWEA. This provides most students with plenty of time to engage in testing, take structured breaks, and to even take breaks as they need to use the restroom, etc. Students that have an IEP or 504 plan that has small group testing documented as a state or district-wide testing accommodation within their formal plan will take NWEA in an alternate setting; these students will know their assigned location prior to testing. After NWEA testing, students will follow an adjusted schedule for the remainder of the day: 24-25 NWEA Bell Schedule BMS - NWEA (1).pdf . It’s important for all students to fully charge their chromebooks the evening before NWEA testing.
Hayes/Beagle Sponsored Upcoming Fundraiser: For the next two weeks, we will be sending our families information to support our Hayes/Beagle sponsored fundraiser, which greatly benefits our students, teachers, and community. Specifically, there will be four emails sent over the next four weeks. While we try not to inundate our families with emails, we are encouraged to send these emails in a structured fashion by the fundraising company. We thank you in advance for your patience with this, and we hope that your family will consider participating in this fundraising opportunity.
PTO Meeting: Our first Hayes/Beagle PTO meeting of the year will be on Tuesday, September 10th at 6:30 pm here in the Beagle Media center. Families may also attend this meeting virtually as there is currently a hybrid offering. Please use the following link for more information: https://www.glcomets.net/ourschools/beagle-middle-school/pto/
Parent Portal Access/Teacher-to-Family Communication: We strongly encourage families to frequently use Parent Portal on a regular basis (weekly) for a variety of reasons. First, our teaching staff regularly update their gradebooks each week, often posting pending assignments and tests with due dates in advance. Second, students will receive homework on a fairly consistent basis in middle school, and PowerSchool/Parent Portal provides an accurate communication platform for parents and students to track and monitor progress. Third, our teaching staff will post classroom/family updates within PowerSchool every other week to keep parents and students informed of upcoming learning targets, assignments, and assessments; this cuts down on our families being inundated with multiple emails from multiple teachers. Here is a video tutorial regarding how we use PowerSchool here at Beagle Middle: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7ogX9MqFFRM. If you need assistance with setting up your Parent Portal account, please contact our main office secretaries Ms. Sadie Green at greens@glcomets.net or Mrs. Lindsay Pelette at pelettel@glcomets.net.
Crossing Guards Needed: The district is in need of crossing guards. If you are interested or know someone that may be interested in being a crossing guard, please have them contact Officer Aryianna Brown, GLPD and SRO at Beagle, at browna@glcomets.net.
Archery Sign-Up: Sign-up for Grand Ledge Archery will be on Thursday, September 12, in the high school archery range. Come see our archery range as well as meet your coaches and fellow teammates. Parents, this will be a great time for any questions you have. We are excited for the start of a great season. Our tentative start date is the week of September 23rd.
