Dear Beagle Middle School Parents,

Here are some updates that we wanted to share at this time:

NWEA Testing Monday: Math NWEA will be on Monday, September 18th; ELA NWEA will be on Monday, September 25th.  Students will report to CNC for both test sessions.  Testing will begin at 8am each day, and students will remain in CNC until 10:40.  At 10:40, students will follow their typical schedule by either going to lunch or 4th hour, and they will attend all classes on a modified schedule for the rest of the day sans CNC at the end of the day.  Please ensure students charge their laptops on Sunday evening to ensure there are no issues with dead batteries for NWEA testing.  Students that are absent for NWEA testing or those that need to finish will do so throughout the week of the assigned test in lieu of attending elective classes; make-up sessions will take place in the media center and will be facilitated by our school counselors.

Parking Lot: We thank our parents for continuing to support an efficient parking lot by pulling all the way forward before dropping off or receiving students, using the passing lane outside the drop-off lane to keep traffic flowing, and utilizing the parking lot as well.  We kindly ask our families that arrive early to take a parking spot in the parking lot instead of parking in the drop–off lane; this helps to keep traffic from backing up on South Street.  Also, please note that if there is ever inclement weather, we will always open our doors early, allowing students to remain in the cafe’ until 7:37.

Planners: We have reached the time of the school year where students will be receiving homework on a daily basis, which should be documented within their school planners.  As we discussed last week, every hour staff model for students what to write in their planners, and planners are checked during CNC class.  We encourage parents to have conversations with their children regarding their planners as they are a great school-to-home communication device.

IXL Diagnostic and At-Home Practice:  Over the past two weeks, our students have completed a diagnostic for both Math and ELA within IXL, a personalized learning platform that supports students where they are in their learning.  On Wednesdays in CNC this year, students will engage in IXL practice, toggling back and forth from Math to ELA week-to-week.  IXL is a great learning tool for our students as it focuses specifically on lagging skills in relation to essential learnings.  Many families are aware of IXL, but we wanted to provide parents with this additional resource below as we encourage students to engage in IXL learning opportunities to the greatest extent possible at home.  This video will provides more insight into IXL and how to support students at home: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6FwuH8yNHu4&authuser=0

8th Grade Washington DC Trip Parent Meeting: 8th Grade Washington D.C. Trip Parent Meeting on Wednesday, September 20th at 6 p.m. in the Beagle cafeteria. If you cannot make the meeting, the Social Studies teachers will have information for students moving forward.

Crossing Guard Needed: Grand Ledge Police Department is in need of a crossing guard to cover South and Green Streets for 30 minutes in the morning and 30 minutes in the afternoons.  This position pays $20 per day.  If you are interested in this position, please contact the Grand Ledge Police Department or email our School Resource Officer, Mrs. Brown, at browns@glcomets.net

Fundraiser: Yesterday, we sent communication regarding our fundraiser, which supports our Hayes/Beagle PTO.  If you would still like for your student to participate in the fundraiser, there is still time to do so.  Here is the link if you are still interested: https://ps.pop4kids.org/BeagleHayes48837

PTO Meetings: The Hayes/Beagle PTO meetings will be hosted here at Beagle Middle School in our media center.  Parents should enter through the cafeteria doors as they are open for athletic events.  The media center is located in the first hallway to the left once in the cafeteria.  Meetings are held from 6:30-7:30pm.  The next meeting will be on Tuesday, October 17th.  We greatly appreciate parent support and participation at these meetings.  In addition, please follow the Hayes & Beagle PTO Facebook page for more information and updates regarding upcoming events.
