Dear Beagle Middle School Families,
Here are some updates and reminders that we wanted to share:
Schedule Pick-Up/School Pictures: Just a friendly reminder that our optional schedule pick-up/school picture opportunity for 7th graders is tomorrow from 4-7pm; 8th grade will be Thursday, August 15th from 4-7pm. There will be another school picture opportunity, during school hours, on September 24th for both initial school pictures and retakes. We look forward to meeting students and families that can attend these events across the next two evenings. Students and families that attend this event are welcome to walk around the building as much as they would like, so that students become comfortable with their schedules. In addition, students should also find their lockers and work the combination. Maps of the building and locker locations will be provided both evenings along with other resources that can be found on our website (see below). While schedules and lockers have been thoroughly reviewed, there is always a chance that something could be amiss. If students have any issues with their lockers or if they have a hole in their schedule, please come to the Student Services Office, which is located immediately outside of the cafeteria to the South for support. Schedules and Schedule Changes: Schedules will be viewable within PowerSchool tomorrow by noon. As we discussed last week in regards to schedule changes, we work very hard to provide students with as many desired elective requests as possible each year; however, we are not able to honor schedule changes or teacher preference requests unless there are significant, extenuating circumstances as part of our district-wide practice. We thank our families in advance for their understanding.
Lunches: Even though schedule viewing was turned off this summers, students have been able to view their assigned lunch within PowerSchool. We wanted to take this opportunity to explain to our families that lunches are assigned strategically based on 4th hour teacher location in the building to ensure student safety and supervision, equal numbers in the cafeteria across both lunches, and a focused learning environment for those students not on lunch. Assigned lunches cannot be changed for these reasons.

This area of our website contains several important pieces of information for our families, especially at the beginning of the year. We encourage our families to review the pages within the above link prior to the beginning of the school year.
Student Support Presentations: During the first week of school, we meet with all students out of their Social Studies classes by grade level to introduce our Student Support Team members. This presentation focuses on our school-wide expectations in showing Comet PRIDE on a daily basis by being Positive, Respectful, having Integrity, and making a Determined Effort in all that we do in our everyday lives. In addition, students get to meet their support team members and learn more about how we can better support our students throughout the year. 7th graders will meet with the team on August 28th; 8th graders will meet with the team on August 29th.
Parent Portal–Updates and Teacher Communication: Last week, we discussed the importance of using Parent Portal on a regular basis to monitor student progress and to receive bi-weekly updates from each teacher. Students also have access to the same resources within their accounts. Office Hours: Based on beginning of the year trainings, meetings, and parent/student events, we wanted to provide our front office hours for the next two weeks:

8/19: Closed due to trainings
8/20: 8am-3pm
8/21: 11am-3pm, due to opening day activities for staff

Future Family Communications: Given the wealth of information shared over the past two weeks, we will not be sending a family newsletter on Friday this week. However, we will send a short newsletter to families at the end of next week. Thereafter, family newsletters will be sent regularly on Fridays, typically in the morning.
Upcoming Events:
- Open House will be on Thursday, August 22nd from 6:30-8 PM. This is an opportunity for students and parents to meet teachers and walk through the building before the first day of school.
- First Day of School: Tuesday, August 27th, full day
- Labor Day Holiday: Friday, August 30th through Monday, September 2nd; classes resume Tuesday, September 3rd.
- School Pictures: Initials and retakes offered during the school day on September 24th
