GLPS Families & Community,

This week – Feb. 27 - Mar. 3 – is Public Schools Week.  Educators, school leaders, public education advocates, and families across the country are joining together in celebrating public schools this week – a week designated to highlight and show support for our local public schools.  Public Schools Week 2023 is part of a larger campaign — #HerefortheKids — one that brings together families, educators, and community members to shine a light on local public schools and share the stories of the positive things happening in classrooms and school buildings nationwide.  The teaching and learning in our local K-12 public schools positively impact students and families as well as the communities they live in and our nation as a whole.  With commitment, creativity, and critical thinking, educators and school leaders continue to provide welcoming and engaging learning opportunities for our children.

You can help highlight and show support for GLPS.  The Michigan Department of Education (MDE) is seeking student- and family-created teacher appreciation videos.  These videos will feature Michigan students and families sharing what they appreciate about their teachers and will be featured on the MDE website and social media platforms for Teacher Appreciation Month in May.  Videos will be accepted through Friday, March 24.  Information and video criteria can be found on the Michigan Teacher Appreciation webpage.  Please note that videos may be edited for webposting, and school districts will be notified in advance of featured videos that honor teachers in their schools.  Students and families may submit unique content, such as groups of students, drawings or photos with voiceover, and videos in a language other than English.

Sincerely,
John Ellsworth
