January 12, 2024

GLPS Families,

You have already heard from me this week (especially if you are a Wacousta Family!), so my update is relatively short today.

I want to start by wishing all of you a Happy New Year, and to say that I am looking forward to all of the wonderful things in store for GLPS in 2024. We are continuing our work on all aspects of teaching and learning to help all students succeed across the district, and we are bringing the Grand Ledge Public Schools Health Center, in partnership with Sparrow Eaton, online in April.  From a bond perspective, we are excited to open the new Wacousta, make upgrades to Neff and GLHS’s heating and cooling systems and roofs, and begin planning for upgrades at Willow Ridge and Hayes. There is a lot to celebrate here at GLPS, from facilities, to the arts, to athletics, to academics, and while we showed positive growth across our district in 2023, I have no doubt that 2024 will be even better!

As today is our first snow day, I wanted to wrap up with a couple of reminders for you. The first is that in November, John Ellsworth sent a message reminding you about the School Closing Protocol (which mirrors the information I shared yesterday along with the school closing message) and about ensuring that you have notifications properly set up so you receive our texts, calls, and emails in a timely manner. If you did not receive the snow day notification last evening, I invite you to use the "SchoolMessenger Settings Guide" and follow the instructions to view the contact information in our system.  If you want to get text messages from the schools, be sure to opt in by texting “Y” or “Yes” to 67587.  If changes are needed to the contact information in our system, legal parents and guardians can communicate with the main office of the school or use this Contact Information Update form.

In addition, we know that in many instances, it is important for others to receive those school closing notices, including babysitters, daycare centers, family members, emergency contacts, etc. We have set up the system to allow for that to happen. Anyone in the community can sign up to receive notifications, including these messages, from GLPS simply by going to GLcomets.net/Connect and following the steps to subscribe. Please encourage your childcare providers and family members to utilize this service. The more we can communicate, the better!

That is it for this week. As always, thank you for your continued support and for providing us with the opportunity to work with your kids every day. As always, I am #proudtobeacomet!
