September 5, 2025 -Wacousta Weekly Updates

What a great second week of school for our Wacousta Comets! Even with the long weekend, students came back ready to build routines and start learning. Our classrooms and hallways are filled with positive energy and it’s exciting to see students already growing both academically and socially.

M-STEP Results
M-STEP results are going home with fourth grade students today. Michigan’s Academic Standards set clear expectations for what students should know at each grade level, and the M-STEP assessment provides just one snapshot of progress in meeting those standards. Along with classroom work, local assessments, and report cards, these results help us better understand each child’s learning and growth. If you have any questions about your child’s results or would like to talk more about how to support their success, I would be happy to meet with you.

Afternoon Dismissal
For the safety of all students, any afternoon transportation changes must be communicated directly to the school office. This is the only way we can guarantee the message is received and ensure your child gets to the correct place at the end of the day. Please do not rely on emails or messages to teachers during the day, as they may not be able to check them in time. Thank you for helping us keep dismissal safe and organized for everyone.

Parents and Teachers in Action
This week we hosted our first PTIA meeting of the school year.  We had wonderful attendance and shared exciting plans for upcoming events and all the fun the PTIA will bring to our students this year. We would love to see even more families join us next month. Our next meeting will be on Monday, October 7 at 6:00 p.m., and childcare is provided.

Fall Fundraiser
Our Fall Fundraiser is underway! It’s a wonderful way to support our Wacousta teachers and students. The funds raised go toward classroom needs and special opportunities that enrich learning. Read more about the fundraiser HERE. Thank you in advance for your participation and generosity. It truly makes a difference for our Comets!

Homecoming
In honor of Grand Ledge Homecoming, Wacousta Elementary is excited to celebrate with Spirit Week and our annual Food Drive for Believer’s Food Pantry, September 8–12!

Check out the flyer for our daily Spirit Week themes, and join in the fun as we show our Comet pride.

Homecoming week is also a wonderful opportunity to partner with our community. We invite students and families to bring in non-perishable food items to support Believer’s Church, which distributes to families in need right here in Wacousta.

Let’s come together, show our kindness, and make a big difference for our community!

Early Pick-Up for Homecoming
If you plan to pick up your child early for Homecoming festivities on Friday, please complete this form by 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 11: Early Pick-Up Form. All early pick-ups will take place at the Office/Bus Loop at 9325 Herbison Rd and must be done by 3:00 p.m. due to end-of-day bus traffic. We ask that you arrive at the time you sign up for, as Homecoming is a busy day! The form will close at 1:00 p.m. Thursday and no changes can be made after that time. Thank you for helping us keep dismissal safe and smooth for everyone!

Picture Day is Coming
Don’t forget Tuesday, September 9, is picture day. Flyers went home in backpacks this week. I can’t wait to see all the smiling faces.
