Highlights and Happenings from Ms. Smith
I hope you enjoyed our two unexpected snow days this week and found a little extra time to slow down and connect. I hope your kids bundled up and went outside to build forts, roll giant snowballs, and do all the fun kid things that so often get replaced by video games and devices. As we head into the final week before Christmas break, I hope the excitement of the season brings you joy, peace, and new holiday memories.
Spirit Week
Spirit Week will take place the week of December 15. You’ll find the details on how your student can participate in the fun HERE.
Holiday Parties - December 18
Parties: Class parties will take place from 1:45 – 2:45 p.m. Check with your classroom teacher regarding volunteer opportunities.
Sing-along: Our all school sing-along will begin at 3:00 p.m. Families are invited to join us in the gym. We will open the doors to parents and begin calling classrooms to the gym at 2:45 p.m.
Dismissal: If you plan to take your child home after the sing-along, you must indicate with the office that they will be parent pick-up before Tuesday, December 16th, at 4:00 p.m. Students identified as pick-up will be dismissed from their classrooms following the conclusion of the sing-along.
2026-2027 School Year
I know it is hard to think about next year already, but last Monday night, the Board of Education approved the school calendar for next school year. Here is the 2026-2027 GLPS District Calendar! It is a 2-page pdf, the first page provides a visual overview, and the second page lists the specifics. We hope this is helpful in your planning.
Give the Gift of Reading
Books make some of the most meaningful gifts we can give our children. Stories last far longer than toys, and reading together can spark traditions that stay with children for a lifetime. One of my favorite elementary childhood books was, The Sweet Smell of Christmas, with its magical scratch-and-sniff pages. I recently gifted a copy to my own children, and now it’s become one of our cherished holiday traditions to read it together each year.
If you’re looking to start a new tradition or simply give a gift that brings connection and imagination, a book is a wonderful place to start. And don’t forget to explore the many festive events happening at the Grand Ledge Public Library this season. You’ll find plenty of opportunities to celebrate reading as a family!
December’s Lunch Menu
Check out the December lunch menu at grandledge.nutrislice.com. This website is helpful to check the breakfast and lunch menus of any building in the district. You can check for nutritional information, filter allergens, and translate the menu into 50+ languages! It's a very helpful tool for parents and staff members.
