GLPS letterhead

GLPS Families,

It does not seem possible, but we have reached November! The school year is moving quickly. We are a couple of weeks away from Thanksgiving break, and we have parent/teacher conferences for our elementary, intermediate, and middle schools this coming week. Heading into the weekend, we have a couple of updates/reminders for you.

  1. Don’t forget to sign up for our parent school improvement team. I sent a message about it last week, and we have had a great response so far. Please note that the sign up closes next Friday, November 11th. If you are interested, please tap/click HERE to fill out the form.
  2. We have had wonderful feedback about our FAQ page throughout the community, and questions keep rolling in! So, we have another update this week, with four new FAQ’s; these include answers to questions about school of choice, the litter box rumor, reproductive health requirements, and distance learning. Please tap/click HERE, or go to GLcomets.net/FAQ, to find answers to questions that we have been asked throughout the district and out in the community.
  3. Don’t forget, Tuesday is election day. As Americans, we are fortunate to have the opportunity to have our voices heard when it comes to the direction of our country, our state, and our communities, and we all have a responsibility to make sure that we exercise our right to vote. So, I encourage you to make time on Tuesday to weigh in on the important issues that are on the ballot this year.

As I often do in these messages, I want to leave you with a reminder about our district’s strategic plan, which can be found HERE. In particular, I want to highlight our belief statements.   They are:

  • We believe all students can learn.
  • We believe it is the role of the school district to provide support and access for all students.
  • We believe in an inclusive learning environment where every person is valued.
  • We believe the GLPS staff are professionals who are vital to the health and future of the Grand Ledge community.
  • We believe in a safe, inclusive environment where students can explore their interests and learn the skills they need to thrive in their communities.
  • We believe in partnerships between the family, community, and education stakeholders for the success of GLPS.

I highlight these, because they form the foundation for the work we strive to accomplish here at GLPS. Our students, regardless of who they are, are valued and important, and we are here to provide them with the individualized support that they need to succeed in school and beyond. The same goes for our staff.  Their expertise, experience, and care for all students is what makes GLPS such a special place. We have a duty to ensure that we continue to create an environment where our students and staff can thrive, and one in which their experiences and diversity are seen as a strength that makes our district a better place to learn and grow. Finally, we believe that it is through our partnerships with families and our community that GLPS can live up to its potential, allowing all students, staff, and families to feel these beliefs come through in their daily interaction with our great district. We cannot fully enact these beliefs without the help of all of our stakeholders. I am excited to continue this work everyday, and I appreciate your support as we work to meet these ideals.

As always, I am #proudtobeacomet.

Sincerely,

Dr. Bill Barnes
