Here are several announcements as we end the week…

Online Attendance Reporting: There are several ways to report an absence at Hayes. The new, simple way is using the online portal at ps.glcomets.net. Once you have logged in, select “Attendance Monitor” from the left navigation menu. Then, click “Report New Attendance.” After you have entered the date, reason, and explanation, click Submit. For more detailed instructions, please use the Parent Attendance Portal Directions . Also, you may continue to email HAAttendance@glcomets.net or call the attendance line at 517-925-5333. Please note: online attendance reporting is not available in the app; it is only available on the website.

Picture Day: As many teachers have stated in their communications with you, picture day is scheduled for Thursday, September 14th during the school day. Picture envelopes were sent home with students with a direct link to order packages for your student.

Joint Hayes/Beagle PTO Meetings: Joint Hayes/Beagle PTO meetings are hosted in a hybrid-fashion with the in-person opportunity being hosted in the Beagle Middle School media center.  Meetings are typically the second Tuesday of each month from 6:30-7:30pm.  Our next PTO meeting will be on Tuesday, September 12th.  We welcome parents to attend our PTO meetings either in-person or virtually.  If interested in attending virtually, here is the link: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/6377951336

A Message from Step It Up! Fundraiser, Sponsored by PTO: The PTO is excited to offer a way to give back to Hayes Intermediate School!  Next week on Thursday, September 14th we will be kicking off an event to help raise funds that will benefit all of our students and staff.  The Step It Up! program will help with funding a variety of school-based activities for students and staff.  The program will be very easy for parents, and it requires about 10 minutes of time.  Students will earn great rewards just for their effort–no money is required.  Step It Up! is an online, donation-based fundraiser, and the email/text-based donation requests can go to people you know anywhere in the world, which means no direct pressure on the shoulders of parents.  Next week on Thursday, students will be bringing home more information, which will be distributed during homeroom class.  Please support your student in completing the Golden Ticket assignment that very night.  All students who complete the Golden Ticket assignment will receive fun prizes, and it does not require money to register.  We will also have some fun drawings for a $250 Amazon Gift Card and four Mini Party Fridges stuffed with cash!  We will send two additional emails throughout the two-week program to parents.  Thank you in advance for your support! For questions regarding this fundraiser, please contact the Hayes/Beagle PTO.

Morning Drop Off Safety: Tuesday-Thursday are typically days with more traffic in the Hayes carline. If you are coming from the South (Saginaw Highway), please stay to the right of the cones. If you are coming from the North (Willow Highway), please stay to the left of the cones. As much as possible, please turn right onto Nixon and head toward Willow Highway if it will still bring you to your destination.

Food Service News: Grand Ledge is excited to offer free breakfast and lunch to all students starting this school year, thanks to the Michigan Healthy School Meals Program! Even though meals will be provided for free, it’s important for families who think they qualify for free and reduced lunch benefits to continue to fill out the Free and Reduced Application. The Application for the Michigan School Meals Program collects information needed to ensure the school receives state and federal funding for education programs. Without this information, Grand Ledge Public Schools could lose critical state funding for educational programs that our students are entitled to.

What else might my student or household be eligible for? By filling out the School Meals Application, your child may qualify for other programs such as:

  • Summer EBT money
  • School sports fees waived
  • Programs that provide food support
  • Programs that assist with school fees
  • Potential household support for cable and internet

The free and reduced benefit application, which is now called Summer EBT and Education Benefits for Michigan School Meals, is located at https://grandledge.familyportal.cloud

Click on “Apply For Benefits” to start your quick application.

Paper applications are also available in all school offices or by calling the food service office at (517) 925-5733. If you have any questions, please get in touch with Darrin Gyurich at 517-925-5733.
