Dear Hayes Intermediate Families,

Here is some news to get us into the weekend…

All School Read is heading into its 3rd week!

This weekend, please continue to read with your student, complete your student’s reading log, and sign it. Have your student bring it in on Monday, so they can receive a prize. Attached is a link with some discussion questions through the end of the book. Family Discussion Questions. We hope you all are enjoying When Stars are Scattered so far! Keep reading! We are looking forward to a live, virtual visit with the authors of the book Omar Mohamed and Victoria Jamieson on the morning of March 15th!

Hayes 6th grade Talent Show

On Wednesday, 3/20 Hayes Intermediate will be hosting a 6th Grade Talent Show at GLHS Auditorium. Family and friends are welcome to join this wonderful event as some of our students showcase their special talents. Specific times will be announced soon.

PTO Board Needs Members

The Hayes-Beagle Parent Teacher Organization has worked hard to provide opportunities for students and staff over the past 3 years that would not have been available without a PTO. Several PTO Board members will be leaving the PTO as their students age into High School. The commitment is as little as an hour a month for the meeting and you can help with fun jobs such as buying treats for students and staff. You can also help plan the dances and other activities that your student will participate in! Without a board, the PTO is legitimately in danger of ceasing to exist. Please come to the next meeting on March 19th at the Beagle Middle School Media Center at 6:30 PM to find out more. You can also join via Zoom - https://us02web.zoom.us/j/82744686994

MI Student Voice Perception Survey

As Dr. Barnes shared in his weekly update, our district will be taking part in the MI Student Voice Perception Survey on March 18-21, 2024.  The survey was commissioned by a group of Michigan superintendents to address the need for a common measure to provide a holistic picture of the student experience. The survey provides the opportunity to hear directly from students – our primary focus – elevating student voice to help inform district and school improvement planning. More information regarding this survey will be provided next week.

Beagle Middle School Elective Roadshow--For Rising 7th Graders

On April 9th, Dave Kushman, Principal, and Kelly Shumway, Assistant Principal, will be at Hayes Intermediate to meet with our rising 7th grade students for the Beagle Middle Elective Roadshow.  This is a great opportunity for the Beagle administrators to connect with our rising 7th grade students and to explain how their daily schedule works.  During this time, they will also review the elective offerings, discuss how to make elective requests, and how those requests will be entered into PowerSchool with the support of the Hayes team. Students will receive an all-in-one document that includes elective course descriptions along with a worksheet where students can pencil in their elective course requests under the guidance of their parents. Later in the spring, Dave and Kelly will be connecting consistently with rising 7th grade families to provide updates for next school year.

International Day

We invite you to join us for International Day this year on April 13 from 2-6 at Beagle Middle School. International Day is a day to celebrate our cultural diversity and to learn from each other!  There are many different ways to participate in this special day. You may simply attend and enjoy watching performances, looking at displays or admiring clothing. Or, you may wish to create a display, perform or be a part of the fashion show (please sign up using the provided forms). We look forward to seeing you and your family!

Hayes Happenings

Hayes Happenings is our weekly news show that is student directed, produced, and edited under the guidance of teachers Jacque Cosgrove and Allison Shumate. Each Monday, the class analyzes and critiques the episode from the previous week as they improve over the course of the trimester. Here is a link to the March 8th episode!
