From Our Principal
Greetings Delta Center Families,
It's a great pleasure to serve as Interim Principal here at Delta Center. The 30 years spent serving the Grand Ledge Public School System before retirement was a blessing. While my time here may be short, my commitment to the Delta Center Family runs deep. You are welcome to call, email or leave me a message if you would like.
Reminders for all:
Attendance
As we know regular, punctual school attendance is the most vital element for school success. There are many stresses on our families and all school communities. We encourage you to stay in communication with us and allow us to be of support regarding your child's attendance.
Bus Line Safety
We want to remind you to not walk through the car line. We cannot ensure your safety as the car line is running on intervals. For example: if the staffed car line is released, it will not stop until it is directed to by operator. Pedestrians walking through the car line at that time risk their own safety.
Thank you
Jill Mangrum

Does Your Child Speak More Than One Language?
Your child may be able to receive support through our Multilingual Learner (ML) Program!
Many of our ML students were born in the United States and speak more than one language at home. Our program helps students grow their English skills while feeling confident and successful in their classrooms.
What does ML support look like?
Daily ML Support
Students come to my classroom for 30 minutes each day during WIN (What I Need) time. WIN is a time when all students receive support based on their individual needs, so students do not miss regular classroom instruction.
During our lessons, I preview the English Language Arts content and vocabulary students will learn in their classroom. This allows students to learn and practice important language before they see it in their classroom. The goal is to help students better understand the lesson and feel more confident participating in class. Teachers, students, and families have shared positive feedback about the support and the difference it can make for students.
Newcomer Support. Students who are new to the United States and score between 1.0–1.9 on the WIDA screener may also receive additional newcomer support. These students receive an additional 30-minute lesson focused on building English skills such as vocabulary, grammar, and everyday language.
Would you like your child to be screened? If your child speaks multiple languages and you would like to find out if they may qualify for the ML Program, please reach out to me! I can help you make sure your information accurately reflects the languages your child speaks. Once the information is updated, I can complete the appropriate language screening process and send home information if your child qualifies or does not qualify for language services.

Smiles On Wheels for BK / Kindergarten
If you are a parent of a BK or Kindergarten student and they have not yet had their dental assessment, we will have Smile on Wheels here November 17th!

Screening Date: 11-17-26
Kindergarten Oral Health Assessment (KOHA)
Smiles on Wheels will be here to provide the Kindergarten Oral Health Assessments (KOHA) in partnership with the Health Department. Like hearing and vision screenings, this is now a state requirement for ALL kindergarten students.
This is a visual oral assessment ONLY. No cleanings or other services are done. If you do not want your child to participate, please call the office and send a written note with
your child stating you would like to opt out. A letter from a dental office must then be provided to the school as proof of meeting the requirement.

Attendance / Absence Policy

Please call our attendance line to leave a message if your student will be absent from school. This is available 24 hours a day.
517-925-5581
Please call before 9:30 am if your student will be late and will need to order a lunch.
All absences from school conflict with the continuity of learning and need to be avoided when possible. Regular school attendance is necessary to academic success and continuous and consecutive attendance in school is required by State law; 10-undocumented absences limit per school year. The 10-absence limit per school year includes both Explained Absence (AE) and Unexplained Absence (AU).
Documented Absence (AD) - Absence that includes a note from a professional (ie. doctor, dentist, lawyer, etc.) to explain the absence. Absences are only considered documented for the days identified in the note. For example, if a doctor excuses a student for Monday and Tuesday, but the student is absent on Wednesday and Thursday as well, only Monday and Tuesday’s absences are considered documented. Any absence that does not include a note from a professional is considered undocumented.
Explained Absence (AE) - Undocumented absence in which a parent/guardian calls the office or sends a note to alert the school their child will not be in attendance, but does not include a note from a professional (ie. doctor, dentist, lawyer, etc.). This is important because explained absences are necessary for schools to meet pupil accounting requirements.
Unexplained Absence (AU) - Undocumented absence in which a parent/guardian does not call the office to alert the school their child will not be in attendance.
Undocumented Absence Letter - A student's school will send a letter after 6 undocumented absences and after 10 undocumented absences in a school year, providing you with notice of the absences and outlining steps to help your child attend school regularly.
Ten (10) or more days of undocumented absences in a school year can be sent to court. However, GLPS will make every effort to work with you and your student before it gets to that point.
Volunteering at Delta Center

Volunteering & Chaperoning
Persons wishing to volunteer for Grand Ledge Public Schools are required to complete the Volunteer Registration Form and be approved prior to serving as a volunteer. All volunteers MUST check in at the office to receive a BADGE prior to proceeding to any other area on school property. Please visit District Volunteer Application to complete the process.
Please note: the background check takes a few days to process, so submit your application in advance based on your volunteer plans.
If your student will be moving to a different school next year, be sure to select both their current school and the school they’ll be attending.
For example: If your child is currently in 4th grade at Delta Center and will attend Hayes next year, select Delta Center and Hayes on the application. This ensures you’ll be cleared to volunteer at both locations when needed. Applications are valid for one calendar year.
Birthdays for Students

Due to food allergies and special dietary needs throughout our school we do not allow edible birthday treats. If you would like to send something in for you child to share with the class on their birthday, please send in things such as bookmarks, erasers, etc.
When we have classroom holiday parties, please approve snacks with your child's teacher.
Thank you!!
