Dear Beagle Middle School Families,
Here are some updates that we wanted to share at this time:
Social Skills Lessons by Counselors and School Resource Officer: Mrs. Wright and Mr. Castillo, school counselors, and Officer Brown, school resource officer, met with all seventh and eighth-grade students out of Social Studies classes this week. During the presentations, students learned about a variety of important topics to support their well-being and success this school year. These included the roles of the school counselor and School Resource Officer (SRO), the difference between bullying and unkind behavior, and how to respond to each. Presentations also covered cyberbullying, internet safety, mental health awareness, and how to report concerns related to violence, self-harm, or unsafe situations. Students discussed identifying trusted adults and reporting agencies, along with healthy habits for a successful year—such as good sleep, hygiene, nutrition, staying on top of homework, and making positive friendship choices. We encourage family members to talk with their children about these topics and reach out with any questions.
Check and Connect Visits by Administrative Staff: Thursday and Friday this week, our administrative team members visited all CNC classes to reiterate some school-wide expectations and to address some concerns we’ve noticed in our student body: horseplay/hands-on behavior, noise levels in the hallways and cafe, congregating in restrooms, appropriate language, and walking in the hallways. We’ve also been addressing these topics as a whole group during lunch announcements. The CNC visits allowed our administrative staff to have the same conversation in more of a small-group environment. We appreciate family members echoing to students at home to show Comet PRIDE in all environments, specifically keeping safe hands, using appropriate voice levels, and being aware of self and others’ space.
New Student Lunch Hosted by Comet Council: Our Comet Council hosted a new-to-district student lunch this week. Several new-to-district enjoyed pizza with Comet Council representatives.
Washington, D.C. Information - Popcorn Fundraiser Forms and Money are due Monday, 9/29 to your child's history teacher. Pick up is scheduled for Tuesday, October 14th, from 3:30-5:30 in the Beagle Cafeteria.
Lost and Found: Our lost and found is located right outside of our cafeteria on the South side of the main hallway. We have several lost and found items already there from this year. We’ve asked students many times to check the lost and found for missing items as we have several jackets, hoodies, water bottles, a single shoe (yes, this is common here:), and other various items. If your student has missing items, please have them check the lost and found ASAP. We regularly donate items left unclaimed; we will be donating items to Ken Clark’s Coat Closet in early October.
Hayes/Beagle PTO Meeting: Our next PTO meeting will be held here at Beagle Middle in our Media Center on Tuesday, October 14th at 6:30pm. We encourage family members to attend these meetings. We have a strong joint PTO thanks to the many volunteers that serve, and our PTO does a great deal for both school and our community. Please join us if you are able to do so. Please also know that attendance at one meeting does not necessitate or require future attendance; in short, family participation is consistently a “no strings attached” approach.
