Dear Beagle Middle School Families,

Here are some updates that we wanted to share at this time:

Conflict Resolution Lessons: Mrs. Weaver and Mrs. Wright, Beagle Counselors, provided our 7th grade students with conflict resolution strategies during Social Studies classes this week in our media center.  The middle years can be a challenging time, so this is just another proactive support we provide our students in addition to the supports every Monday during CNC.  On October 5th, our counseling team will be supporting our 8th graders in a discussion about bullying, with a specific focus on prevention, addressing, and reporting.

Hayes/Beagle PTO Sponsored Fundraiser:  We wanted to thank our families that have participated in the Hayes/Beagle PTO sponsored fundraiser.  Proceeds from this fundraiser are going to directly support our students and staff throughout the school year.  Specifically, the Glow Dance on Thursday, October 3rd from 2:45-4:30 pm is free to all students thanks to this fundraiser.  Over the past two weeks, students that have participated–which simply means registering and providing emails–were randomly selected to receive prizes on behalf of the fundraising company.  Next week, the grand prize will be provided to one lucky participant. The fundraiser ends on Thursday, September 26th.  We will send one more communication about the fundraiser on Monday.  If your student is interested in participating, there is still time left. Again, we thank our families for supporting our PTO.

Athletic Events: With the year up and running and a gaggle of sporting events happening on campus multiple nights per week, we wanted to first say thank you to our families and students for supporting our student athletes.  We appreciate the outstanding sportsmanship of our athletes and spectators, focusing on the positive and building each other up in a Comet PRIDE fashion.  In addition, spectating students have been doing an outstanding job in following the expectation of going home first, and then coming back up to campus to spectate when the game begins.  This helps to ensure student safety.  In addition, Mr. Jim Price, Middle School Athletic Director, is typically on campus during sporting events.  If you ever have any issues, concerns, or questions regarding athletic events, please feel free to connect with him at the event or email him at pricej@glcomets.net.  If you have any issues, concerns, or questions regarding high school athletics, please contact Mr. Steve Baker, Athletic Director, at bakers@glcomets.net.

NWEA Testing: NWEA testing went very well for our students, and they will not have to think about NWEA again until January. We use NWEA data in a variety of ways, including: department, grade level-wide collaboration to ensure we are filling in the gaps of potentially missed essential learnings within the classroom; to guide our instruction with upcoming essential learnings; and on an individual student level to provide necessary interventions and supports.  While NWEA is one piece of data that reflects student learning, NWEA performance is highly correlated with projected proficiency on State Standardized Assessments like M-STEP and PSAT.  Please note that we are no longer posting NWEA scores in SchoolNet within Parent Portal; please look for information in next week’s newsletter as to where scores will be posted within Parent Portal.

School Picture Retakes: Picture retakes are on Tuesday, September 24th, please be sure your child brings their other picture packet with them if getting retakes. If you missed pictures during orientation, this is your opportunity to get those taken.

Spirit Week: Our Comet Council in conjunction with Hayes, Holbrook, and the high school have put together a fun week of spirit wear ideas. Beagle did make a slight change as the students wanted Tuesday to be Twix Twin day. Spirit week begins Monday, September 23rd.  Please click Screenshot 2024-09-12 at 3.52.38 PM.png  for details.

Boys’ Open Gym:  Boys interested in participating in middle school basketball tryouts, which will occur at the end of October, are welcome to engage in open gym here at Beagle on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6:30-8pm.  These open gym sessions will be supervised by high school basketball coaching staff.

PTO Meeting: Our next Hayes/Beagle PTO meeting of the year will be on Tuesday, October 22nd at 6:30 pm here in the Beagle Media center.  Families may also attend this meeting virtually as there is currently a hybrid offering.  Please use the following link for more information: https://www.glcomets.net/ourschools/beagle-middle-school/pto/

Students' of the Week: Each week, our teaching staff, by department, choose students that consistently demonstrate Comet PRIDE. We are very proud of our Students' of the Week!  https://www.glcomets.net/ourschools/beagle-middle-school/studentoftheweek/
