Dear Beagle Middle School Families,

Here are some updates that we wanted to share at this time:

Destination Imagination Beagle Team:

Are you a 7th or 8th grader who loves to build, create, and solve big challenges? We’re putting together a Destination Imagination team to take on this year’s Engineering Challenge—and we’re looking for 4-6 more curious, inventive, and enthusiastic teammates!

You’ll get the chance to:
-Design and build real structures and devices
-Solve problems with creativity and teamwork
-Bring your ideas to life with stories and presentations
-Compete with other schools and show off your hard work

No experience is needed—just bring your imagination, teamwork, and willingness to try something new.

Practices will be fun, hands-on, and full of laughter as we prepare for the competition.
Open to 7th and 8th-grade students.

Spots are limited—don’t miss out on this adventure in creativity and engineering! Interested? Have your adult reach out to Jennifer Pakkala at pakkala@comcast.net for details.

Breast Cancer Awareness Ribbons:

Ribbons will be sold at lunches next week for 50 cents on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. Thank you to our Comet Council for doing this! All profits will be donated to Mott's Children Hospital Oncology Department. In addition, the Comet Council is encouraging everyone to wear pink on Wednesday, October 15.

PowerSchool, Family Communication Archive, and Grades: We wanted to send along a reminder to our families that PowerSchool course grades are updated weekly by our teaching staff, and that grades can and will change throughout the school year.  Both homework and assessments are graded at Beagle under a traditional grading system, which is new to our 7th-grade students and families.  We encourage family members to continue to review each teacher’s Family Communication Archive at the top of their gradebook in PowerSchool as this share with families upcoming essential learnings, assignments, projects, and assessments.  At Beagle, we use this as our communication tool in lieu of inundating our families with 6 emails every other week from teachers; this would be overwhelming!  Our staff also try to be as communicative as possible within the gradebook by making comments regarding specific assignments, etc.  While we are a standards-focused instructional school just like the buildings below our level, the reality is that our grading system is still traditional at this level and beyond. If you have any questions or concerns regarding your student’s progress in a specific class, please be sure to reach out to the specific teacher.

Fundraiser Assembly: Again, we thank our families who were able to participate in the Hayes/Beagle PTO fundraiser this past month. Thanks to the efforts of our families, the fundraising company will be hosting a BMX assembly later in November, and all of our students will be able to attend the fundraiser. Top contributors to the fundraiser will be awarded VIP seating.

Washington, D.C. Information - Popcorn Fundraiser pick up is scheduled for Tuesday, October 14th, from 3:30-5:30 in the Beagle Cafeteria.

Hayes/Beagle PTO Meeting: Our next PTO meeting will be held here at Beagle Middle in our Media Center on Tuesday, November 11th at 6:30 pm.  We encourage family members to attend these meetings.  We have a strong joint PTO thanks to the many volunteers that serve, and our PTO does a great deal for both school and our community.  Please join us if you are able to do so.  Please also know that attendance at one meeting does not necessitate or require future attendance; in short, family participation is consistently a “no strings attached” approach.
