Dear Beagle Middle School Families,

Here are some updates that we wanted to share at this time:

Parent/Teacher Conferences:  Thank you to our families that were able to attend parent/teachers conferences this week.  Your continued support and feedback is greatly appreciated.  If you ever have any questions or concerns regarding your student’s academic progress, please feel free to reach out to specific teacher(s) at any time through the year via email or phone.

Introduction to Acting and Musical Theatre Performances:  This week, our Introduction to Acting and Musical Theatre, led by Mrs. Hager and Mrs. Burton, put on outstanding performances for both family members and several elementary students from Holbrook and Willow Ridge Elementary. We thank Mrs. Hager and Mrs. Burton for their tremendous efforts in orchestrating these events along with the hard work and dedication of our students.  This was an outstanding opportunity for our elementary students as well.

Future of Learning Council and Visitors to Beagle: GLPS is a part of an organization called the Future of Learning Council (FLC), which is a statewide organization that focuses on student centered and competency-based learning systems. This year, the district has been hosting the statewide meetings at Sawdon Administrative Building, which has been a great opportunity for us to engage in the work in our own spaces, and we attended this event on Wednesday. Former Governor Rick Snyder,  who is currently running a foundation focused on competency based learning, along with Diego Arambula, vice president of the Carnegie Foundation focused on innovation in the classroom, visited Beagle on Wednesday afternoon to observe two of our classrooms in between FLC sessions.  Dr. Barnes facilitated the walkthroughs of the classrooms, so that our guests could observe the work we are engaging in around standards-based learning (SBL) and the use of learning scales.  The team visited two co-taught math classrooms, and they were very excited and encouraged by the work taking place.  We thank Mrs. Boruta, Mrs. Pinckney, Mrs. Randolph, and Ms. Strong for hosting this great opportunity to see innovation in action, and we look forward to continuing to partner with FLC here at Beagle Middle.

Beagle PBIS PRIDE Store Seeking Donations: The Beagle PBIS PRIDE Store is seeking donations! Starting in December, students can turn in their PRIDE tickets for a chance to win a bigger prize. If you are interested in donating a prize to the PRIDE store, please check out our Amazon Wish List (below)-- it's full of fun, creative, and motivating prizes! If items are shipped directly to Beagle, please add a note: "Beagle Middle School: PBIS". Thank you in advance for your support! https://www.amazon.com/hz/wishlist/ls/366JRNKFDCKNL?ref_=wl_share

Comet Council Food Drive: We thank our families and students that were able to donate to the Comet Council Food Drive this week.  All donated items will be donated to our local food banks.  Thank you for your support.

Footloose Field Trip Next Wednesday: On November 19th, all students will report directly to CNC class in the morning as we will be attending Grand Ledge High School’s performance of “Footloose.” 7th grade students will attend in the morning, come back for first lunch, and then return to CNC.  8th graders will be in CNC for the morning hours, take second lunch, and then head over to GLHS to see the show.  Unfortunately, we cannot take both cohorts of students simultaneously given the size of the auditorium.  This will be a great opportunity for our students, and we thank the GLHS fine arts program inviting us to attend.

Hayes/Beagle PTO Meeting: Our next PTO meeting will be held here at Beagle Middle in our Media Center on Tuesday, January 13th at 6:30pm.  We encourage family members to attend these meetings.  We have a strong joint PTO thanks to the many volunteers that serve, and our PTO does a great deal for both school and our community.  Please join us if you are able to do so.  Please also know that attendance at one meeting does not necessitate or require future attendance; in short, family participation is consistently a “no strings attached” approach.
