Dear Beagle Middle School Families,

Here are some updates we wanted to share at this time:

Thank You PTO Members and Dance Parent Volunteers: A huge shout out to our PTO for organizing another outstanding dance for our students last week on Friday; in addition, we thank our parent chaperones for their support as well.  We had more than half of our student body attend the dance, and 25% of all ticket sales are going back to our student body to support our PBIS school store!

Parent Meeting for Washington DC Trip: On Monday, May 6th at 6 pm, our 8th grade Social Studies team will be holding a very important parent meeting for 8th grade students attending the Washington DC trip.  The meeting will be held in our cafeteria.  While this is not a required meeting, a great deal of important next steps information will be provided, and final payments will be due at this time. We encourage all parents of students attending this trip to attend the meeting.

Social Media Issues: We wanted to inform our families that we have been dealing with an uptick of social media issues (Snap Chat and Tik Tok) that are occurring after school hours but causing a significant campus disruption the following day.  Specifically, we have been addressing harassing and threatening comments along with the distribution of inappropriate photographs (nude photos).  If we are made aware of inappropriate pictures being shared over social media, we involve local law enforcement to take over the investigation because minors sharing nude photographs are considered to be distributing and potentially in possession of child pornography.  As we have discussed in the past, we provide our students--from the beginning of the year forward--direct instruction on these specific topics; they have heard this message from us throughout the year.  If you allow your child to use social media, please continue to have regular conversations about appropriate social media use.  Social media concerns that happen outside of the school day should always be brought to the attention of local law enforcement.

Lugnuts: If your student did not turn in their Lugnuts form and they intend to go on this trip, we must have the permission slip turned in by Monday, May 6th.  Please note that if your student is not going on the trip at all, they will need to stay home on Wednesday, May 29th as all school staff will be attending the Lugnuts trip while the rest of the 8th grade student body will be traveling to Washington DC. Lansing Lugnuts School Days 2024.docx.pdf

STEAM Showcase: Join us for Beagle’s annual STEAM Showcase on Thursday, May 16th from 6-7:30 pm. This open house style event is open to all students and families in the district and community members. Each year we host this event and reveal the TOP SECRET THEME as we open our doors at 6:00 pm.  Admission is free but families may want to bring money for Shove It Pizza, concessions, and treats from A&W.  Can you guess the theme?  Some projects include zombie hands, self-portraits, fantasy plants, machines and maps.   Parents interested in helping, please use the following link to sign up: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C0F4DACAD2FA0FBC43-48995770-steam#/

Michigan Student Leadership Summer Camp Registration:
Give your student the gift of leadership this summer by registering your student for a Michigan Student Leadership (MASC/MAHS) summer camp this July. Join hundreds of young leaders from around the state for an unforgettable experience filled with team-building, outdoor adventures and leadership workshops. Don't miss this opportunity to help your student develop valuable skills that will benefit them for a lifetime. Learn more and register now at https://mascmahs.org/camp/. Camp is open to ANY student entering grades 7-12 in fall 2024.

Lost and Found Last Call: Our lost and found pile is massive.  We have been announcing to our student body to check the lost and found for missing items (hoodies, jackets, water bottles, etc).  The lost and found is located right outside our cafeteria.  Items that remain unclaimed in our lost and found will be donated to Goodwill on Friday, May 10th

Families Not Returning GLPS Next Year: If your student will not be returning to GLPS next year, please be sure to reach out to your building’s secretary.  At Beagle, please reach out to Meagan McMillan mcmillanm@glcomets.net.  If you have already made contact with appropriate secretaries across the district, you are all set.
