Dear Beagle Middle School Families,

With this being our last newsletter for the year, we wanted to begin by saying THANK YOU for your continued and outstanding support of our students and staff this year.  As the saying goes, it takes a village to raise a child, and we are grateful to have such tremendous support from our community in various ways.

Before we jump into the actual newsletter, we wanted to mention to our rising 8th-grade families that we will begin with communications for next year in early August when we return to our desks after summer leave in July.  Prior to leaving for the summer, we will send one last correspondence to our rising 8th-grade families with a few quick reminders as this time of the year can be hectic and fast-paced.

Now, we would like to share some updates to close out the year:

Student Survey: If you received a survey, please disregard.  This was inadvertently sent to both parents and students through our School Messenger system; the survey is for students only.  Our apologies for the error and inconvenience.

Washington DC Trip: A huge shout out to our parent chaperones who attended last week's Washington DC trip; your support was greatly appreciated.  Our students had an outstanding time touring Washington DC, downtown Philadelphia, and Gettysburg, Pennsylvania.  This experience helped to bring application to our 8th grade Social Studies curriculum for our students, and they truly enjoyed the experience.  Another huge shout out to our 8th grade Social Studies team–Mrs. Janes, Ms. Rollis, and Mr. Wetherwax–for their hard work and efforts in making this trip a reality for our students!  We look forward to providing this outstanding opportunity for our 8th-grade Social Studies students next year.

Chromebook Collection–8th Grade Only: 7th-grade students will keep their school-issued Chromebooks and chargers over the summer unless they are not returning to GLPS next year.  8th grade Chromebook and charger collection will take place next week on June 11th and 12th during CNC.  8th-grade students must turn in their assigned school-issued technology before leaving for the summer.

Yearbooks: Yearbooks will be passed out on Monday during CNC to students who purchased them in advance.

June 14th–Big Fun Day (BFD): Friday, June 14th is the last day of school, which is a half-day.  Thanks to our PBIS team, students will have the opportunity to engage in a variety of outdoor and indoor activities.  We thank Planet X Events for also supporting with BFD.  Students can bring cell phones on the last day of school, but please be sure that students keep their backpacks at home on the last day.  In addition, it’s very challenging to call students down for early dismissal on the last day of school as they are engaged in activities outside.  Therefore, if you have to pick your student up for any reason on the last day, please work out a communication plan with them in advance, and then sign them out in the main office.

Spring NWEA Results: Since the Spring NWEA closed on June 3rd, spring testing results may not be available for parents to access via Parent Portal until later next week.  To access NWEA results within Parent Portal, click on School Net, and then use the dropdown menu to select Spring NWEA.

Rising 8th Grade Families: We are actively working on the master schedule at this time, and we will have student schedules completed in the near future.  However, we do not publicize student schedules in PowerSchool until mid-August due to unforeseen circumstances that occur over the summer; we will send an email to families when schedules go live in August.  Schedule pick up and school pictures will be on Thursday, August 15th from 4-7pm for our 8th graders.  Please note that this is not required, and that 8th grade students can pick up their schedules and tour the building at any point after this date, Monday-Friday, 8am-3pm.  In addition, picture make-ups will also take place in the early fall, so no pressure to make this date if you have a vacation planned–all good.

Sports Physicals: Grand Ledge High School now has a Health Clinic located at the building and students can get free athletic physicals! Because it is a school based clinic, things work a little differently - kids can come and be seen without their parents present if they have the proper parental consent forms completed. Because of this, the clinic does require that the students have their sports physical forms filled out by their parents prior to their appointment. If their forms are not filled out properly and the parent is not present for the appointment, they will be rescheduled. The clinic does accept walk-ins, but please encourage parents to call and schedule an appointment to cut down on wait time.
Physical forms are available in the high school athletic office or online at this link:
