Dear Beagle Middle School Families,
With school starting next week, we wanted to send along another family communication before we receive students on August 26th. At the top of this week’s communication, you will notice reminders about schedule distribution and school pictures taking place tomorrow and Wednesday. Please remember that schedule pick-up and school pictures over the next few days are not required; school picture make-up will be available to students later in the school year, during the school day.
In this week’s communication, however, we are including more information about school functionality–from morning drop-off to school policy expectations. These policies are embedded in our website as well, which we will discuss below. In addition, we archive every family communication to our webpage throughout the school year for the convenience of our families.
Here are some reminders and updates as we get ready to kick-off another school year:
Schedule Pick Up and School Pictures:
- 7th-grade schedule pick up and school picture day will be on Tuesday, August 19th, from 4-7 PM at Beagle Middle School
- 8th-grade schedule pick-up and school picture day will be on Wednesday, August 20th, from 4-7 PM at Beagle Middle School.
- Medical forms will be available during schedule pick-up; in addition, medical staff will be on hand to receive medications with the necessary medical forms completed. Forms and other information can be found here: https://www.glcomets.net/family-and-student-resources/medical-forms/medical--other-forms/
- Students are not required to pick up their printed schedule; we simply offer this as an option to our students and families; schedule pick-up is a great opportunity, however, to become familiar with the building, work locker combinations, etc. In addition, school picture make-up/retake opportunities will take place during the school day in the fall.
- For parents interested in ordering school pictures, you may place your order here: https://shop.imagequix.com/g1001269846/shop/all. If you have any questions regarding school pictures, please contact our secretary, Lindsay Pelette via email at pelettel@glcomets.net.
- Student schedules will be available in PowerSchool for students and parents to view on Tuesday, August 19th, around 9am. Please note that while we work very hard to provide students with as many desired elective requests as possible each year, we are not able to honor schedule change or teacher preference requests unless there are significant, extenuating circumstances. Also, lunches cannot be changed as they are based on 4th-hour teacher assignments, which is how we balance our lunch numbers and ensure a functional learning environment during the lunch hour. Lunches are equally balanced with both 7th and 8th graders in each lunch.
Website: We also wanted to take this opportunity to point our families to our website, which contains a plethora of information. We regularly update our website throughout the school year; in addition, all of our weekly family newsletters are archived on our website. Here is the link to our website: https://www.glcomets.net/ourschools/beagle-middle-school/
Bell Schedule, Morning Drop Off/Afternoon Pick Up, Policies and Important Information, and Who to Contact, please click here: https://www.glcomets.net/ourschools/beagle-middle-school/aboutourschool/
This area of our website contains several important pieces of information for our families, especially at the beginning of the year. We encourage our families to review the pages within the above link for a successful start to the school year.
Student Support Presentations: During the first week of school, we meet with all students out of their Social Studies classes by grade level to introduce our Student Support Team members. This presentation focuses on our school-wide expectations in showing Comet PRIDE on a daily basis by being Positive, Respectful, having Integrity, and making a Determined Effort in all that we do in our everyday lives. In addition, students get to meet their support team members and learn more about how we can better support our students throughout the year. 7th graders will meet with the team on August 27th; 8th graders will meet with the team on August 28th.
School Lunches and Resources: GLPS will offer free meals to students at least through September 30, 2025, as part of the Michigan School Meals program, which was funded through the last state budget. GLPS will have a better idea about the future of the Michigan School Meals program and whether free meals will be provided to students once the state government agrees on a new budget (for the state fiscal year 2026). GLPS will communicate more about school meals as we learn more. In the meantime, please review this link on our webpage: https://www.glcomets.net/pub/stories/view/glps-update-on-school-meals-august-12-2025 as your family might qualify for education and meal benefits. The Education & Meals Benefit Application helps our schools get state and federal funding for education programs. This application must be completed annually in order to qualify for the education and meal benefits that help both your family and the school district.
