What an Amazing 10 Days of Giving!
Our school community truly showed the power of kindness and teamwork! During our 10 Days of Giving, students and families donated over two full crates of food items to support the Lansing Food Bank—wow! 1,405 items were collected with the top classrooms being Mrs. Moon, Ms. Gasch, and Ms. Braley. Great job everyone!
And that’s not all! Through our Spare Change to Make a Change campaign, we collected an incredible $168.72. After a school-wide student vote, our students proudly chose to donate the funds to C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital, helping support children and families when they need it most. ✨
We are so proud of our students for leading with compassion and making a real difference in our community!
Holiday Shoppe: A special thank you goes out to our incredible PTO and the dozens of volunteers who helped organize and run our Holiday Shoppe! This inaugural event was a resounding success, and it was truly magical to see the kids' excitement as they shopped for their family members. Their joy and enthusiasm were heartwarming and made this experience unforgettable.
Happy Holidays: As we head into this well-deserved break, I want to take a moment to wish you all a very Happy Holiday season! I hope the time off allows for quality moments with your family and friends.
A HUGE hats off to ALL of our incredible teachers, special ed team, and every staff member who makes each day special, productive, and a positive experience for ALL of our students. A special thanks to Mrs. Reiber, Mrs. Conaty, and Mrs. Hodge for their tireless efforts to manage and take care of the essential behind-the-scenes work. Ms. LaFerier & Mrs. Locke, whose ability to build positive and vital connections with students is unmatched. Ms. Hatmaker ensures that bumps, bruises, and medication needs are always met with care. Mrs. Gee, our dedicated media specialist, and Karen and the food service crew, for keeping everything running smoothly. And finally, Sarra and her custodial team, our reliable bus drivers, and our incredible paraprofessionals—your hard work and dedication is beyond appreciated.
Monday, January 5th is a Professional Development day, so we will see you back at Delta Center on Tuesday, January 6th!
If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me.

We had a few lucky students who were able to shop with a HERO this past week! Thank you to all of our Heros and to Ms. Brown!
|
|
|
We are also running low on our school supplies of gloves, mittens, hats (pants and underwear too!) for our students! Please consider donating new or gently used to our office. Students use these items frequently and we like to have extra supplies.
We appreciate it so much!

Hello DC Families and Friends!
I want to make sure my students have exactly what they need to succeed, so I've created a Golf project through DonorsChoose, the nonprofit classroom funding site for public school teachers.
Here's my project:
Teeing Up Opportunities: Golf for All!
Your support would mean so much to my students!
Thank you for considering a gift to my class!
Lynley Watters
P.S. If you know anyone who may want to help my students, please pass this along!

Attendance / Absence Policy
All absences from school conflict with the continuity of learning and need to be avoided when possible. Regular school attendance is necessary to academic success and continuous and consecutive attendance in school is required by State law; 10-undocumented absences limit per school year. The 10-absence limit per school year includes both Explained Absence (AE) and Unexplained Absence (AU).
In order to help provide supports for students and families, GLPS closely monitors explained and unexplained absences. We also work with families to ensure that as many absences as possible are documented, because undocumented absences can trigger truancy considerations.
Documented Absence (AD) - Absence that includes a note from a professional (ie. doctor, dentist, lawyer, etc.) to explain the absence. Absences are only considered documented for the days identified in the note. For example, if a doctor excuses a student for Monday and Tuesday, but the student is absent on Wednesday and Thursday as well, only Monday and Tuesday’s absences are considered documented. Any absence that does not include a note from a professional is considered undocumented.
Explained Absence (AE) - Undocumented absence in which a parent/guardian calls the office or sends a note to alert the school their child will not be in attendance, but does not include a note from a professional (ie. doctor, dentist, lawyer, etc.). This is important because explained absences are necessary for schools to meet pupil accounting requirements.
Unexplained Absence (AU) - Undocumented absence in which a parent/guardian does not call the office to alert the school their child will not be in attendance.
Attendance Policy - Undocumented Absences
A student's school will send a letter after 6 undocumented absences and after 10 undocumented absences in a school year, providing you with notice of the absences and outlining steps to help your child attend school regularly.
A student's school will communicate with families if the student has undocumented absences on more than 10% of the first 30 days.
Ten (10) or more days of undocumented absences in a school year can be sent to court. However, GLPS will make every effort to work with you and your student before it gets to that point.
Please note that school related absences, such as field trips or athletic events, are not factored into any truancy related processes.

Volunteering at Delta Center
|
|
|
Volunteering & Chaperoning
Persons wishing to volunteer for Grand Ledge Public Schools are required to complete the Volunteer Registration Form and be approved prior to serving as a volunteer. All volunteers MUST check in at the office to receive a BADGE prior to proceeding to any other area on school property. Please visit District Volunteer Application to complete the process.
Please note: the background check takes a few days to process, so submit your application in advance based on your volunteer plans.
If your student will be moving to a different school next year, be sure to select both their current school and the school they’ll be attending. For example: If your child is currently in 4th grade at Delta Center and will attend Hayes next year, select Delta Center and Hayes on the application. This ensures you’ll be cleared to volunteer at both locations when needed. Applications are valid for one calendar year.
