From Our Principal
Monday, December 11th, Delta Center presented to the Board of Education. I shared the excitement for our new and improved DC following bond construction, shared the Delta Center MICIP Goals, and explained the instructional focus, small-group instruction, and TLT Observations. I provided an overview of the NWEA Reading score increase, continuing education for teachers, and growth from that continuing education.
Third-grade teacher, Kim Wheat, shared successes in kindergarten, and first-grade teacher, Cali Rushton shared first-grade successes with first-grade student Brock who shared an example of a secret story about QU and sang the math doubles song. Mrs. Wheat went on to share second-grade reading and math successes, and third-grade students Holden and Luke highlighted the Twelve Days of Giving and how it ties into social studies and math standards and how they are learning about holidays around the world. Fourth-grade students Remi, Sophia, Makenna, and Jaslyn shared fourth-grade successes in math, reading, science, and social studies.
After our presentation, the Board of Education approved Delta Center’s updated MICIP School Improvement goals which are as follows:
Throughout the 2023-2024 school year, teachers will use IXL diagnostic and skills-based activities at least three times a week to adjust differentiated instructional strategies and drive core instructional practices in small groups.
By the end of the 2023-2024 school year, kindergarten and first-grade students will increase their composite scores by 5% as measured by Acadience.
By the end of the 2023-2024 school year, second, third, and fourth-grade students will increase core scores by 3% as measured on NWEA Growth and Achievement.
We work to continue to provide excellence for all students to promote student achievement.
We want to thank you for all of your support and donations for our annual twelve days of giving.

Hi DC Families, I am excited to report that the students are busy learning how to identify feelings in their monthly classroom lessons. The first step to emotion management is to recognize feelings in yourself and in others. In the upcoming months, the students will continue to increase their knowledge of emotion management and learn some fun and easy calming strategies (deep breathing techniques, positive self- talk, muscle relaxation techniques, etc.) they can use to help calm themselves. Please reach out if you have any questions or need any assistance.

Makerspace needs your help!
We are looking for parent volunteers to help run makerspace on Monday’s during lunch recess!
Our classes do not have students bring in birthday treats. We have a number of food related allergies across the building so that is a practice we have not done for quite a number of years now. If your child wants to bring something for the class, it can be non-edible items like bookmarks, pencils, etc. Thank you for helping to keep our students safe.
With the winter months coming, it is always helpful when student's have a change of clothes. Please send the extra clothes in a clear ziplock bag with your student's full name on the front.
Thank you for all you do!

The Sawdon Art Show is a success! Thank you to all the artists, family and friends who showed up at Wednesday's special evening viewing. It was amazing to see everyone sharing their work, even explaining their processes, and even getting inspired by the work of others. We have some amazing talent and it's great to get it out there and among the community. Our administration were super impressed by the artworks and are enjoying being able to see them in the halls.
The art will be on display until December 22nd and can be viewed during daytime business hours if you still want to see it while it's up!
Great work artists, I am so proud of you!
Remember to check out our Delta Center art room facebook page (Mrs. BellDean's DC Art Room) for important updates and amazing art! Thank you for your continued support in our students and our school.

See Your Art on a Team T-Shirt!
Love to draw? See your design on a Grand Ledge team t-shirt!
Grand Ledge’s Destination Imagination program, the Clever Comets, is seeking designs for its team shirts that they wear at competition. DI promotes students using their creativity in science, technology, art, engineering and math, so we want a shirt that reflects exactly that.
Send us a drawing that YOU designed! If your design is selected, you will receive a $25 gift card AND a t-shirt with your design for you to wear!
Here are the requirements for the design: • A clean, simple, bold design – get creative! • Include the name Clever Comets • Can be in electronic or hard copy format • Use maximum THREE colors – two for ink, one would be the t-shirt color • Do NOT use the words Destination Imagination anywhere in the shirt design.
Adults - We want this to be a student design, so please refrain from “helping.” Once the design is selected, Clever Comets members and organizers will work with the artist to finalize the design.
Submit designs to Pakkala@comcast.net by Friday, January 5. Include the student’s name and their contact adult’s name, phone number, and email address.
