From Our Principal
Thank you to all our Delta Center families who attended in-person conferences this Tuesday and Thursday. We value the opportunity to partner with you to discuss grade-level milestones and your child’s growth. Our teachers work hard to create supportive classrooms where students feel safe to learn and take risks. Strong family partnerships make all the difference. Our final conference of the week, scheduled for today, Friday, November 14, will be held virtually. If you haven’t scheduled yet, please do so—we’re aiming for 100% participation! Thank you for your continued support.
A big thank you to our PTO for the delicious meals provided throughout conference week. Your support truly helps our staff feel appreciated and energized during these long days.
Yikes! Our parent pick-up lot has become increasingly unsafe, and we need your help. Please demonstrate STAR behaviors when driving through our lot. This fall, we’ve unfortunately seen fender benders, speeding, impatient drivers cutting through the car line or parking spaces, and even inappropriate language and gestures.
Please remember: we are an elementary school community, and our children are watching. A safe, positive environment starts with us—the adults.
You may have also noticed our new 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 staging signs. We are finalizing pick-up name cards and will share our updated process for using the staging area very soon. Thank you for your partnership in keeping every child safe.
As always, if you have any concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out to me.

Thank you, Delta Center families, for supporting our library and shopping at our
fair. The rewards that our library earned will allow me to purchase new books for
our students. We are so grateful!
And a BIG thank you to our book fair volunteers for giving your time and helping
run the cash registers. It is a huge help during the family shopping events and I
am so appreciative!
See you in March for our Literati Book Fair!
-Mrs. Gee
Fun things going on in STEAM :)

Visit our Scholastic Book Fair homepage to:
*Preview the fair (the digital preview allows families to see what might be at our book fair as well
as prices)
*Create an e-wallet for your child to shop without cash during student-only in-school shopping
hours.
*Donate to Share the Fair (Share the fair funds help students purchase books who might be a
little short on cash as well as can be used to purchase a new book for the library or for a
classroom library)
*Shop the online store if you can’t make it to the Family Shopping Nights. Online shopping starts
11/10-11/23.
Families can set up an eWallet today through 11/14.
I encourage families to reach out to your child’s teacher to see if they have a specific day that students
will be released from class to shop during school hours. For students who shop with cash, I will send
change home in a small ziplock bag.
Student In-School Shopping is 11/10-11/14 from 9:30am-Noon & 1pm-3:30pm.
See you at the fair!

P.E. News!
Hello DC Families and Friends!
I want to make sure my students have exactly what they need to succeed, so I've created a Golf project through DonorsChoose, the nonprofit classroom funding site for public school teachers.
Here's my project:
Teeing Up Opportunities: Golf for All!
Your support would mean so much to my students!
Thank you for considering a gift to my class!
Lynley Watters
P.S. If you know anyone who may want to help my students, please pass this along!

Toy Donation

The Grand Ledge Shopping Tour is coming soon! They help our very own students in need. Staff members are assigned to one student to take shopping for clothes. When they return from shopping, the students have a few gifts to open. Please consider donating a new, unwrapped toy. This collection container is our lobby here at Delta Center. Feel free to stop by during school hours to donate or you can send in your donation with your student. Thank you for all you do!

Attendance / Absence Policy
All absences from school conflict with the continuity of learning and need to be avoided when possible. Regular school attendance is necessary to academic success and continuous and consecutive attendance in school is required by State law; 10-undocumented absences limit per school year. The 10-absence limit per school year includes both Explained Absence (AE) and Unexplained Absence (AU).
In order to help provide supports for students and families, GLPS closely monitors explained and unexplained absences. We also work with families to ensure that as many absences as possible are documented, because undocumented absences can trigger truancy considerations.
Documented Absence (AD) - Absence that includes a note from a professional (ie. doctor, dentist, lawyer, etc.) to explain the absence. Absences are only considered documented for the days identified in the note. For example, if a doctor excuses a student for Monday and Tuesday, but the student is absent on Wednesday and Thursday as well, only Monday and Tuesday’s absences are considered documented. Any absence that does not include a note from a professional is considered undocumented.
Explained Absence (AE) - Undocumented absence in which a parent/guardian calls the office or sends a note to alert the school their child will not be in attendance, but does not include a note from a professional (ie. doctor, dentist, lawyer, etc.). This is important because explained absences are necessary for schools to meet pupil accounting requirements.
Unexplained Absence (AU) - Undocumented absence in which a parent/guardian does not call the office to alert the school their child will not be in attendance.
Attendance Policy - Undocumented Absences
A student's school will send a letter after 6 undocumented absences and after 10 undocumented absences in a school year, providing you with notice of the absences and outlining steps to help your child attend school regularly.
A student's school will communicate with families if the student has undocumented absences on more than 10% of the first 30 days.
Ten (10) or more days of undocumented absences in a school year can be sent to court. However, GLPS will make every effort to work with you and your student before it gets to that point.
Please note that school related absences, such as field trips or athletic events, are not factored into any truancy related processes.
Volunteering at Delta Center
Volunteering & Chaperoning
Persons wishing to volunteer for Grand Ledge Public Schools are required to complete the Volunteer Registration Form and be approved prior to serving as a volunteer. All volunteers MUST check in at the office to receive a BADGE prior to proceeding to any other area on school property. Please visit District Volunteer Application to complete the process.
Please note: the background check takes a few days to process, so submit your application in advance based on your volunteer plans.
If your student will be moving to a different school next year, be sure to select both their current school and the school they’ll be attending.
For example: If your child is currently in 4th grade at Delta Center and will attend Hayes next year, select Delta Center and Hayes on the application. This ensures you’ll be cleared to volunteer at both locations when needed. Applications are valid for one calendar year.
