Michigan Chapter of NDIA Donates $5,000 to Beagle Library Grand Ledge, MI – This afternoon in the Beagle Middle School library, Valde Garcia presented a $5,000 donation from the Michigan Chapter of the National Defense Industrial Association (NDIA) to the Beagle Middle School library in order to purchase new STEM books for its collection. Valde Garcia is a lifelong Michigan resident, retired Michigan State Senator (2001-2010), retired U.S. Army Colonel, and is the incoming President for NDIA-Michigan. He shared, “NDIA - Michigan’s mission and vision include supporting the Soldier, Marine, Sailor, and Airman with the best and latest in equipment and technology and by bridging the gap and connecting Michigan’s defense community to those who defend and keep our nation safe.” Morgan Douglas, the Beagle Middle School staff member who runs the library, was happy to accept the check. She said, “I am thankful and appreciative of the donation. I’m excited to update our collection of STEM books and be able to support the interests of our kids with new non-fiction materials.” “NDIA-Michigan’s STEM committee supports robotics and other STEM activities throughout Michigan,” explained Garcia. “It also sponsors and hosts events that excite young people about the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.” “The new books will give our students and staff better resources to increase excitement in our growing STEM extracurricular activities and elective courses,” reported Beagle Middle School Principal Dave Kushman. Superintendent Dr. Bill Barnes expressed his gratitude noting, “Grand Ledge Public Schools appreciates partnerships like this which help students explore their interests and learn the skills they need to thrive in the world.”
