WR Incident 10-05-15

Superintendent Dr. Brian Metcalf wants to make you aware that this afternoon, at approximately 2:45 pm, the Eaton County Sheriff’s Department notified the district that Willow Ridge Elementary School had a potential threat in the vicinity. Specifically, it was reported that someone had carjacked a vehicle near Broadbent and Willow, and that a suspect could still be in the area.

This notice came after Hayes Middle School students had already been released.

Immediately upon notification, Willow Ridge Elementary was placed in a “Shelter in Place” status. Students and staff were secured within the building with all exterior doors locked; instruction still occurred within each classroom.

At approximately 3:20pm the Sheriff’s Department notified us that they believed that there was no longer a threat; they gave us the all clear and we were able to release the students on time.

As always, student safety is our top priority, and I would like to thank the Sheriff's department and our staff at Willow Ridge for acting so quickly!!
