Health Team

At Grand Ledge Public Schools, student health and safety are a top priority. Our Health Team is made up of two District Nurses who support and guide more than 25 trained unlicensed school staff members across our buildings. While a nurse is not stationed in every school, our District Nurses provide training, oversight and direction to ensure students’ health needs are met each day.

All health services, including medication administration, are carried out under the supervision of our District Nurses and follow safe & legal practices as outlined in Michigan's School Health Code, Michigan Department of Education's Medication Model Policy, Michigan's laws, public acts or legislation that addresses health services at school, Michigan Association of School Nurses Safe & Legal Administration of Medication at School and Grand Ledge Public Schools Board Policies.  GLPS's team approach allows us to provide consistent, reliable care for students while they are at school.

Medication administration during the school day

  1. When possible, please arrange to have all medication given at home.
  2. When a student is required to take medication at school, all medications (prescription and over the counter) must be delivered to the school office by a parent/guardian or an adult parent representative - NOT BY STUDENTS, in the original container, and you will need to complete the necessary form(s) below, print them out to  obtain the physician's signature and then return the completed form to the school before any medication can be given at school.  Printed copies of these forms are also available in the school office.
  3. Students with respiratory or highly allergic conditions will be allowed to carry inhalers and/or emergency medical kits with them while at school, as long as the self carry/self administer authorization form is on file at the school and an emergency action plan, both completed and signed by the physician and parent.
