School Meals Reminder

August 31, 2022

Grand Ledge Public School Families,

Today – the first day of school – was an exciting day for staff and students alike, and I hope it went well for all of you!

Also, a reminder that since the federal government has stopped funding free lunches for all kids (which had been part of its pandemic response), students this school year will have to pay for school meals UNLESS their family applies and qualifies for free or reduced meals.

We encourage ALL families, regardless of income, to complete and submit a short, confidential school meal application to help ensure that there are no gaps in meal benefits for students who qualify for free or reduced-price meals.  Families can submit this application online or in person at your child's school office.  Simply click here and use the "GUEST" button to begin to complete the short, confidential application.  The state issued a press release in July about the guidelines for free or reduced-price meals, and it notes, for example, that a family of four would qualify for reduced-price school meals if their annual income was $51,388 or less.

You may begin depositing money into student accounts at any time to prepare for the cost of school meals.  Meal Magic Family Portal gives families a single website for all their food service tasks.  They can make deposits, transfer funds, review account balances, see what their children are eating, set parental controls, apply for meal benefits, complete Household Information Reports, and more.  It's intuitive and mobile-friendly.

Check or cash deposits will still be accepted at school buildings.  Please place your check or cash in an envelope along with the name of your student and then address the envelope to "Food Service."   Checks should be made payable to "Grand Ledge Public Schools Food Service."  Teachers at elementary schools will collect envelopes each day, and students in grades 5-12 should give the envelope to a cashier at breakfast or lunch.

For the 2022-23 school year, breakfast and lunch costs are listed below.

Grades K-6

        • Cold Breakfast   $1.75
