April 27-May 1, 2020

Good morning Hayes’ families,

Well, we are off and running with our distance learning, and we hope that your student was able to acclimate to the new systems and structures that will be school for the next few weeks.  We enjoyed attending some first-hour Zoom sessions as well this week!  It was nice to finally see some of our students!  As we have stated previously, school is not school without students, and this transition has been just as challenging for teachers as it has been for students. Despite the challenges of this pandemic and the second order change we have all faced, we are proud of our students’ continued efforts to engage in their education; we are grateful to work with such supportive, patient families; and we are also impressed with the efforts and dedication of our staff!  Thank you for your continued support!

Access to the Building

At this time, we have limited access to the building because of the “Stay Home, Stay Safe” order.  Now, the order has been extended into mid-May, which will push building access back even further.  Administratively, we meet virtually weekly and sometimes multiple times per week.  Please continue to watch your emails as we will communicate out via School Messenger as soon as we can access the building for student possessions.

Resources, FAQ’s, Teachers’ Hours, Etc.

We have added links on our homepage for parents and students to access easily.  The resources can be found on the bottom left corner titled “Hayes Spotlights.”  Here is the direct link: Hayes' Home Page

Teacher Communication and Ownership of Learning

After this week, teachers will be sending less proactive correspondences to parents via email.  During the middle years, students are expected to take more ownership for their learning in the classroom.  After this week, we are at the appropriate point in the “lesson” for parents and teachers to release that control to their students.  In addition, we do not want to inundate our parents with redundant emails.  Therefore, please continue to encourage your student to check their email each day, Monday-Friday, as their teachers will continue to communicate directly with them on their assigned day.  If there are questions or concerns, then please have your student email the specific teacher.  We will continue to provide parents weekly overviews within our Monday newsletters.

As we stated earlier, we thank you for your continued support! Please feel free to reach out with any questions or concerns.  Have a great week!

Sincerely,

Dave Kushman and Eric Leopold
