Dear Hayes Parents,

It sure was nice to hear the hallways come back to life here at Hayes this week!  Students masked up and did an excellent job in following our safety protocols to stay distanced to the greatest extent possible.  We continue to work diligently to keep students as spaced out as far as possible throughout the school day. We thank our students and parents for making our trimester three return a success.

Tuesday, April 13th PSAT for 8th Grade; 7th Grade Stays Home

Earlier this week, we notified all families of the PSAT assessment that we are required to offer to all 8th grade students.  8th grade students taking this assessment are expected to be in their testing room by 7:40am, and the test will end at 1pm.  Per PSAT guidelines, we cannot release students early; therefore, all students must stay until 1pm.  Virtual 8th grade students that have signed up to take the assessment via google form sent earlier this week in the aforementioned email will receive an email on Monday with their test room assignment, and these assignment numbers will also be available inside the main entrance on Tuesday.  8th graders must bring two #2 pencils and a scientific calculator on test day.  This information was also emailed to all 8th grade students this week.

7th grade in-person students will remain home on Tuesday next week.  7th graders will complete asynchronous work on Buzz on Tuesday.  There will be no live sessions for any students on Tuesday afternoon.  This information was also emailed to 7th grade students this week.

Home Screening For In-Person Students

We thank our parents for continuing to screen their in-person students each day before sending them to school.  Please keep children home if they are experiencing any symptoms.  Please keep children home if there is a positive case in your household and/or if you believe your child has been exposed to a positive case elsewhere until the potential for Covid has been formally ruled out.  Please communicate with us by calling (517) 925-5680 if your child is staying home for the aforementioned reasons.

Reporting Positive Cases

In-person families should report any positive Covid cases within their household to the district by emailing health@glcomets.net and calling the hotline at (517) 925-5725.  In addition, please contact the school with this information by calling (517) 925-5680.  If there is a positive case within your household, then please keep your in-person student home until you hear back from Cindy Brummette, district nurse.

Free Covid Testing Next Week

GLPS is hosting another Free Drive-Through Rapid Covid-19 Testing Event next Wednesday and Thursday (April 14 & 15) from 11am-7pm at the Sawdon Administration Building.  This is a FREE event open to students, staff, and anyone in the community who wants to get a rapid antigen test--all are welcome! Results will be available in 15-30 minutes and emailed or texted to the tested.  More information at GLcomets.net/COVIDtesting.  Pre-register for testing at https://honu.dxresults.com/AntigenSignup?LabId=2078.  This will make things move more quickly at the drive-through testing!  If a positive result is received from the rapid testing, you'll get further instructions that direct the person to a facility that provides a more accurate confirmation test.

Blessings In A Backpack For In-Person Students

For several years, this program has provided bags of food for weekend meals at no cost to hundreds of students in the Grand Ledge area.  A bag of nourishing, kid-friendly food will be placed discreetly in their backpack or locker at the end of each week during the school year (except during school breaks).  Examples of some of the food items distributed are: macaroni and cheese, canned vegetables, oatmeal, granola bars, apples, and beef ravioli.

If you would like your student to participate in the program, please fill out and sign the form linked below.  Have your student return it to the Counseling Office at Hayes to Mrs. Hernandez.  If you miss this deadline, you can still sign up for the program at any time during the school year. After you send in the completed form, your student will be eligible for the program.

Blessings In A Backpack Permission Slip

That is all that we have for this week.  Please feel free to reach out with any questions or concerns.

Take care,

Dave and Eric
