Dear Beagle Middle School Parents,
We thank you for your patience this week! Between the parking lot, bus delays, and getting our cafeteria routine set, we are thankful to have such a supportive and understanding team of parents working by our side! Our students have also done an amazing job adjusting to their schedules, finding their classes, and settling into the routines of middle school; they are making great progress. This progress will continue--as it always does at the middle level--over the next two weeks, and the struggles that we faced this week will be behind us very soon.
We will keep this week’s newsletter short, but we wanted to bring to your attention some key changes to our arrival and departure routines we are making based on our observations coupled with your feedback. In addition, we wanted to also pass along some friendly reminders regarding planners, chromebooks, lockers, and school pictures.
Updated Arrival and Departure Routines/Expectations
Here are some important updates to note:
Drop Off at 7:30-students may be dropped off along the curb of Beagle as early as 7:30. Parents do not need to keep students in vehicles until 7:40. Supervision of students outside will begin at 7:30am. Therefore, please feel free to drop your student off and move on with your day beginning at 7:30am. Please instruct your child to remain in front of the building, along the walkway to ensure safe supervision.
Brookside--Eric sent a communication out on Wednesday this week noting that we cannot, per Grand Ledge Police Department, cross students at the intersection of Brookside and South Street; students coming down Brookside must be crossed by the City of Grand Ledge Crossing Guard at the intersection of South and Green Street.
Roundabout--based on traffic flow and congestion within the parking lot coupled with parent feedback, we will now allow students to use the sidewalk crossings at the roundabout. A staff member will be present to cross students safely across the crosswalk that connects the parking lot and drop-off loop lanes. Students are to stay within the crosswalk section of the roundabout at all times while crossing using the roundabout. Please note, the safest place for student drop-off and pick-up is in the actual drop-off loop along the curb in front of the school.
Parking Lot--while dropping off in the drop-off loop is the safest option for student safety, parents are able to drop--off in the parking lot. Students must cross from the parking lot across the loop via the crosswalk at the main entrance as it is monitored by a staff member.
Please Do--pull all the way forward past the main entrance and use the left lane to exit the parking loop once you have dropped off your child. Pulling forward and using the left lane to immediately exit after drop-off will keep traffic off of South Street.
Buses--timing on bus departure has improved each day now that students are familiar with their routes and shuttles to the high school. If you notice a bus in the roundabout, we kindly ask that you yield for them to access the bus loop on the South side of Beagle.
Planners and Chromebooks
Planners and Chromebooks were distributed in Check and Connect Class this week. Our goal with student planners and our Check and Connect class is to help continue to build executive functioning skills with our students at the middle level. Students are expected to use their planners on a daily basis, and their Check and Connect teachers will help reinforce the use of planners. Students are only expected to document homework assignments and tests within their planners each day. In addition, there is a parent communication section at the bottom of the planner, which is a great place for parents to write to teachers regarding any questions or concerns they may have.
We are excited to be a one-to-one school with the distribution of chromebooks to students. Please be sure to review the agreement form that was sent home with the chromebooks today, and we have included that agreement as an attachment below. We encourage students to carry their backpacks with them each day, storing their chromebooks within for safekeeping and immediate access to technology in the classroom. Please note that if your student did not receive a chromebook today, we will continue to distribute early next week.
Lockers and School Pictures
As we have stated earlier, students will be provided a locker the week of September 20th; Check and Connect class will be utilized for this process. Also, our school picture day is September 28th.
These are all the updates that we have for now. Again, we thank you for your continued support and patience as we adjust to this new building. We know that things will continue to improve in short order. If you have any questions or concerns, then please feel free to reach out to us at any time.
