Dear Beagle Middle School Parents,

Fall has finally arrived!  It’s looking like a Pure Michigan weekend ahead--a great opportunity for the cider mill, corn mazes, and anything outdoors.  This is the perfect opportunity to unplug as a family to enjoy the wonderful outdoor opportunities our state has to offer before those November winds come calling.

Overall, it was a great week here at Beagle.  We noticed a continued improvement in student behavior, and we greatly appreciate your continued efforts in promoting Comet PRIDE at home.  Please be sure to mention to your student to dress for the weather as we will continue to go outside throughout the fall months for recess.

Morning Dropoff: Thank you to those of you who pull all the way forward and use the safest methods to drop off students in the morning carline! On most days, a car can get through the morning carline at Beagle in less than 3 minutes. Please do not create a dangerous situation by making a U-Turn on South Street or having your child get out of the car on South Street. We have asked Grand Ledge PD to increase patrols due to reports of unsafe drop-offs. Additionally, traffic in a roundabout ALWAYS has the right-of-way. The roundabout near Beagle has had multiple close calls with cars pulling in front of busses.  If you see a bus in the roundabout, please STOP at the Yield sign.

Afternoon Pickup: On most days, parent cars clear the carline by 2:37. This is only 7 minutes after dismissal. Please be courteous and take turns when entering the parking lot.  Please be sure to pull all the way forward up to the next vehicle when waiting in line to pick up students at the end of the day.  In doing this, it allows our busses to make it through the roundabout in a timely fashion.

Cell Phones/Social Media: Thank you for having regular conversations with your child and monitoring their social media use! If your student has a cell phone at school, chances are they are using it inappropriately at times. Teachers report numerous students, even those who are normally well-behaved, who check their phones during class. Middle School students are not emotionally ready for the attention demands of Snapchat or Tiktok. Please consider not allowing these apps to be used by your student until they are older.

LINKs:  If your student is interested in being a LINK, a peer leader for students with dynamic learning needs, then please have them see Mr. Cusack in room 104 or Mrs. Nelson in the counseling office.  We have been announcing this that past few days on morning announcements.  Both Mr. Cusack and Mrs. Nelson will be able to address all questions regarding our LINKs program here at Beagle, so please have your student see them if they have any questions.

Girls Who Code Club:  Mrs. Grass, a teacher in the district, will be hosting this club beginning in November.  As of now, the club will meet here at Beagle on Wednesday evenings from 7-8pm, November through February.  Please be sure to click on our extra curricular resources links below for more information.  We will have more information regarding this club in subsequent newsletters.

Boys’ Basketball Tryouts: Both 7th and 8th grade tryouts will be held next week on October 25th and 26th  8th grade will be in the Beagle Main Gym from 3-5pm;

7th grade will be from 5:30-7:30 in the High School Auxillary Gym.

All players should wear a plain white t-shirt with their last name in all caps written on the back.  A current MHSAA physical must be on file, dated April 15, 2021 or after, in the Beagle Main Office.

Weightlifting: Off-season weightlifting and speed/agility training will begin the week of November 8th on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday evenings at the high school from 7-8pm. The cost is $25; students do not have to be there every night if they have scheduling conflicts.
