Dear Beagle Middle School Parents,

Well, September has come and gone very quickly, and we all can agree that a cool, crisp fall will be welcomed by all!  The weather this week allowed for much needed outdoor recess for our students; it’s great to see them socializing and engaging with each other outside each day.  Our students continue to do well with adjusting to the increased pace of instruction in the classroom over the past week.  We are looking forward to another great week next week!

At this time, we wanted to pass along some important updates and reminders:

Planners: All students were provided with a Beagle Middle School planner for the year, and they are expected to use it on a daily basis.  Hour-by-hour, teachers reinforce planner use by scaffolding for students what to put in their planner; this is also reinforced at the end of the day in Check and Connect Class.  Our goal in requiring planner use post-pandemic is to help reinforce and build our students’ executive functioning skills, and to ensure they have a successful school year.  Please be sure to review your student’s planner as much as possible.  If you have any questions or concerns for teachers, there is a location for parents to communicate with teaching staff at the bottom of the page.

Social-Emotional Wellness Screener: In accordance with the direction from the Michigan Department of Education, our middle school students will be participating in a social-emotional wellness screener in Check and Connect Class next week.  The purpose of this screener is to identify and support students that may have social-emotional needs that school staff can support. Our district uses Rethink Ed, a virtual platform, to support with social-emotional lessons weekly in Check and Connect class; we will use the same platform for the screener in a couple of weeks.  Results from this screener will also help our building customize social-emtional lessons in Check and Connect Class in the future months to come.

Lockers: Lockers and locker combinations have been created for our students.  Once students have completed their social-emotional wellness screener in Check and Connect class next week, we will provide them with that information, and they will have time to locate lockers and work on combinations during Check and Connect Class next week.

Work Completion While Absent: If your student is absent for any reason, please encourage them to utilize their school-issued chromebook to complete assignments within their teacher’s Google Classroom, Schoology, or PowerSchool accounts to the greatest extent possible, and please encourage them to communicate with their teachers via email.

Arrival and Departure: Thank you for your support in making our arrival and departure so efficient!  Please note that if your student rides the bus, they cannot walk to the high school to get on their afternoon bus.  They must ride from Beagle on the shuttle to the high school for supervision and safety purposes.  We have noticed a massive influx of students crossing at the roundabout and heading to the high school for various reasons, so your support in reminding your student to stay on the sidewalks and crossing within the crosswalks is greatly appreciated.  In addition, please continue to proceed with caution through our parking lot for the safety of our students and staff.

School Pictures: School pictures will be on Tuesday, October 5th.  Student picture order forms were provided to students this week in their first hour class.  Please be sure to have this form filled out before Tuesday, and please have your students bring it with them on Tuesday if you are interested in ordering pictures.

Fall NWEA Testing: Math teachers will give the fall NWEA in their classes next week; English teachers will give the NWEA later in October.  Teachers will use this data to help guide instruction and provide necessary supports and interventions moving forward.

These are all the updates that we have at this time.  Please feel free to reach out with any questions or concerns.

Take care,

Dave and Eric
