Dear Beagle Middle School Parents,

Here are some updates (and important repeated reminders) that we wanted to share with you:

Thank You to Our PTO and Mt. Hope Church: We wanted to take this opportunity to express our appreciation to our amazing PTO for providing both dinner and breakfast to our staff during conference week; in addition, we also wanted to thank Mt. Hope Church for hosting a lunch for our staff as well this week.  On behalf of our staff, we greatly appreciate the community support of our teachers.

End of Second Trimester; Start of Trimester Three:  Final grades for the 2nd trimester will be available on March 17th in PowerSchool; we do not mail home report cards.  The third trimester begins on Monday, March 14th.  If your student has trimester-long electives in their schedule, they will begin their 3rd trimester elective rotation on the 14th.

Upcoming Lockdown Drill: Next week, we will be doing our next required lockdown drill. In accordance with state law, the date and time of this drill must remain unannounced to our students. We will conduct this drill during lunch or passing time, which is another state requirement for this lockdown drill. These situations often are less structured and can present students with more choice in how to keep themselves safe, depending on where they are in the building. Next week, we will be reinforcing lockdown processes with students through announcements in Check and Connect class, but please have discussions with your student at home about the upcoming drill, how it will only be a drill, and how they can best keep safe during an actual event.

Attention Parents of 7th Graders:  We held our Elective Course Request Presentation with our current 7th graders on Tuesday.  Our 7th grade students were provided a two-sided Elective Course Description sheet, which contains a QR code/ink that students will use with the supervision of their parents to submit their elective course requests via google form. Students need to be signed into their Grand Ledge email account to submit their elective requests via QR code/link. Once submitted, students will receive an immediate email with their requests.  Students must star this email in their inbox as their Science teachers will help them place their requests into PowerSchool anywhere between March 16th-18th.  Our 7th graders must have the google form completed no later than Monday, March 14th, so that our Science teachers can help them place their requests formally into PowerSchool next week.

Attention Parents of 8th Graders: Our 8th grade Science teachers continued to support students with high school scheduling logistics.  In addition, Mrs. Tonya Rice, Assistant Principal at GLHS, sent all 8th-grade families information regarding scheduling for high school classes.  High school scheduling requests must be completed in PowerSchool by March 18th.

Spring Dance Hosted by PTO/Parent Support Needed:  The PTO is excited to announce the Spring Fling Dance, which will be hosted here at Beagle on April 8th from 6-8:30pm.  Students should arrive in semi-formal dress (nothing fancy like prom attire) and plan to have a great time hanging out with their friends.  There will be food and drinks, games, photo backdrop, open gym, dancing, and a DJ.  The cost is $15 per student, but there are funding and scholarship opportunities for students who need it.  Parent volunteers are also needed at this time. To purchase tickets and/or to sign up to volunteer, then please click: https://www.glcomets.net/ourschools/beagle-middle-school/pto/spring-fling-dance--april-8-2022/

Trimester 3 Art Students: If your student has Art for trimester three, they will need the following supplies: 2 regular sharpies, 2 fine tip sharpies, colored pencils, pencil, eraser, and handheld pencil sharpener.  Mrs. Frederick’s also has the following items on her wishlist to better support her classes: baby wipes, extra sharpies, old dictionaries, magazines, unused coloring books, clear plastic jars with lids, older stencils, and other miscellaneous craft supplies.

Grief and Loss, A Message from Ms. Driscoll: Ele's Place helps students cope with the death of someone, along with the grieving process.  The program is eight weeks in duration, with a rotation so that the meetings are each held in a different hour, allowing for the least amount of academic time missed.  If you are interested in this eight week opportunity to help your student with grief, please do the following two things: speak with your student to ensure they are ready to discuss their grief and loss, and fill out the Ele’s place form (below) to give Beagle Middle School permission to include your student in our grief group for eight weeks. If you have any further questions, don't hesitate to reach out to Ms. Driscoll in our counseling office at dricollk@glcomets.net. https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1KlTNlfFtKENZJ0xSoA3D9q6jISRpuCLb3xKBtnXLJ60/viewform?edit_requested=true

Hayes/Beagle Joint PTO:  In an effort to continue to support Kindness Month, the PTO is asking parents and community members to please consider donating $5 via Venmo to your PTO to continue funding exciting activities such as an all-school book (Hayes), teacher appreciation activities (Beagle/Hayes), school dance (Beagle), and so much more.  Venmo username: @hayesandbeaglepto.  Please note that you do not need to enter a phone number as this step can be skipped.

The next PTO meeting will be on Wednesday, April 6th at 6pm via Zoom. We welcome and encourage Beagle parents to attend our PTO meetings.  Here is the recurring Zoom link for future PTO meetings: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/82744686994
