Dear Beagle Middle Parents,
Here are some important updates and reminders:
After-School Dismissal: We thank our parents and students for following the updated after-school dismissal protocols we started this week. As we stated earlier this week, our updated protocols are designed to keep our students safe, especially our bus riders while at the high school. Just to quickly recap our new procedures, bus riders are released at 2:28, and all bus riders are expected to shuttle over to the high school. Bus riders are to remain on buses at the high school until 2:42, and then they can transition to their assigned bus that takes them home. All other students are released at 2:30. Students that are walking home must take South Street, and no students are allowed to head South on Green Street, which leads to the high school. Students that are being picked up by a high school sibling and those attending after-school events at the high school are to walk down South Street and use Spring Street to head to the front of the high school. All students attending after-school events at the high school must enter through the main entrance. Again, these updated procedures are designed to keep our students safe, and we appreciate you continuing to review these expectations with your child at home.
Parking Lot Safety: We’ve noticed an increase in students being picked up along South Street, within the roundabouts, or outside of designated pick-up areas in general. We have also noticed cars cutting through the parking lot and not following the lanes looping through the pick-up area. In an effort to keep our students safe, please continue to follow our pick-up expectations by pulling into the parking lot, pulling all the way forward along the curb, and picking up in designated areas–along the curb or by the crosswalk within the parking lot. These procedures help to keep students safe. While the first 3-4 minutes of dismissal is congested, most cars are out of the parking lot within 7-8 minutes or less. To be honest, with a school of 775 students, this is actually very good timing when compared to other buildings. We appreciate your continued support here in an effort to keep everyone safe.
MSTEP for 7th Graders: 7th graders will take the M-STEP for ELA next week in their English classes; Math M-STEP will be the week of May 9th.
NWEA Testing: NWEA testing begins with Math the week of May 16th; English NWEA will be the following week.
18th Annual Josh Spalsbury Memorial 5K Comet Chase: This race is in memory of Josh Spalsbury, a former Grand Ledge athlete and the son of former Grand Ledge teacher and track coach Kim Spalsbury. Josh passed away in a tragic accident in 2007 while working Yellowstone National Park. Foster Swift, Lions International, and Dart Bank have helped to support the memorial run in honor of Josh and his family. Proceeds from the event support our students and teachers through the Grand Ledge Educational Association’s grant opportunities. This allows for our teachers to apply for educational grants, providing increased learning opportunities for students in the classroom. There are many opportunities for the whole family at this event; it’s not just a 5K race. For more information about the race on June 18th, then please click on the link at the end of the email and use our Community Resources link to find additional information.
Robotics Team Announcement from Mrs. Taylor and Mr. Hankins: The 2022-2023 Middle School Robotics Team will be starting our new season in May. It is open for any students that will be 7th, 8th, or 9th graders during the 2022-2023 school year. We will be holding a parent meeting on Monday, May 9th from 6-7 at the GLHS library. If you have any questions, please contact Abby Taylor at email@example.com or Josh Hankins at firstname.lastname@example.org. Hope to see you there!
