October 14, 2022

Here are some updates and changes we want to make you aware of:

Half-Day Tomorrow: Friday, October 15th is an half-day.  School starts at 7:55am, and we dismiss at 10:50am.  Students will attend hours 1-6 tomorrow; there will not be Check and Connect Class tomorrow or any half-days moving forward this year.

Cell Phone Policy--During Check and Connect Class next week, teachers will be giving students a refresher regarding our cell phone policy.  As discussed with students during our Student Support Presentation back in mid-September, students may be on their cell phones before the school day begins, during lunch inside the cafe or on the playground, and after school.  Cell phones must be off and out-of-sight during all other times.  Based on teacher feedback and our observations during passing time, we feel it’s time for a refresher regarding cell phones, especially during passing time.  Unfortunately due to the popularity of social media and the drama that goes with it, we cannot have our students on cell phones during instructional or transitional times.  We appreciate your support and understanding here, and we appreciate your reinforcing this at home.

Timeliness to Class: Last week, we discussed our tardy policy with parents.  We have also provided reminders to students during morning announcements; Check and Connect Classes have supported here as well.  As we stated last week, we are monitoring tardies for the first trimester as of October 11th.  Students are allotted 3 tardies per class each trimester without having to serve a PM detention.  We thank you for your support and understanding here as well.

English NWEA:  With Math NWEA wrapped up last week, our students will take NWEA for ELA in their English classes beginning Monday, October 18th.

Choir Concert: Mrs. Burton and her Choir students will be hosting their “Fall Concert” at the high school auditorium on Tuesday, October 19th at 7pm.  Please join us for this event!

Students’ of the Week: To view a running list of our Students’ of the Week posted to our homepage, please click https://www.glcomets.net/ourschools/beagle-middle-school/studentoftheweek/.  Since Friday was a half-day, we did not announce students of the week; we will announce students of the week for this week next week on Monday. They will be updated on our website by Tuesday.

Community Resources:  To view community resources posted to our homepage, please click https://www.glcomets.net/ourschools/beagle-middle-school/community-resources/

Extra Curricular Resources: To view extra curricular resources posted to our homepage, please click https://www.glcomets.net/ourschools/beagle-middle-school/extra-curricular-activity-resources/.  We have been announcing Spanish Club on the morning announcements over the past week.  If your student is interested in joining Spanish Club, then please have your student see Mrs. Kelly in room 204 for more information.  There will be an informational meeting on Monday, October 18th from 2:30-3:30.  Quiz Bowl--If your student is interested in competing academically against other students and schools, then please encourage them to join our Quiz Bowl team. The first meeting is on Tuesday, October 19th after school in room 216 with Mrs. Smith.  Archery Club at GLHS--There are limited spots still available for those students interested in joining the Grand Ledge Archery Team.  We have information in our main office.

These are all the updates that we have for now.  Please feel free to reach out with any questions or concerns.

Take care,

Dave and Eric
