Dear Beagle Middle School Parents, 

Here are some updates that we wanted to share at this time:

Trimester One Final Grades and Report Cards:  Trimester one final grades will be posted within PowerSchool by Wednesday, November 30th.  Final grades and digital report cards will be available at this time within Parent Portal.  We do not send home paper report cards.

Trimester Two Begins Monday, November 28th: Monday, November 28th is the beginning of trimester two, which means that teacher gradebooks are refreshed at this time for the trimester.  Also, students enrolled in trimester-long electives (all electives except Band, Choir, Foregin Language, and in some circumstances LINKs program) will begin their next elective class within the same hour as the first trimester elective course.  Students can view their schedules within PowerSchool to ensure they know their schedule when we return from break.  We are also happy to support students in the halls and main office with this too.  

After School Athletic Event Expectations: We thank our parents for reiterating our expectations for student spectators at sporting events.  Your support is very much appreciated.  

Behaviors and Academics in the Second Trimester:  As experienced middle school educators, we want to be proactive with parents that the second trimester is where we often see a dip in academic performance with students and a spike in inappropriate behavior based on a variety of data and observations.  While we consistently try to support this phenomenon in a variety of ways (targeted CNC lessons, Comet PRIDE refresher lessons, adjusting schedules for academic intervention, counselor support groups, etc.), the reality is that the middle of the year is a great challenge for all students.  It’s the stop-start-stop–and go for a long time trimester with Thanksgiving break followed by Holiday break, and then no break for nearly 10 weeks or so later in the spring!  Therefore, in an effort to keep children motivated and engaged, we highly recommend after school activities such as sports, recreational activities, and simply getting away together on the weekends as a family.  While we can’t control the Michigan weather, we can embrace the many outdoor activities that Michigan has to offer across all four seasons.  The more active students are and the more routines that are in place during this trimester, the better they do behaviorally and academically.  Here is the link to the Grand Ledge Community Recreation Page: https://grandledgecomets.org/main/otherad/contentID/46751142

Joint Hayes/Beagle PTO Meetings: Joint Hayes/Beagle PTO meetings are being hosted in a hybrid-fashion this year with the in-person opportunity being hosted here at Beagle in our media center.  Meetings are the second Tuesday of each month from 6:30-7:30pm.  Our next PTO meeting will be on Tuesday, December 13th.  We welcome parents to attend our PTO meetings either in-person or virtually.  If interested in attending virtually, here is the link: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/82744686994

These are all of the updates that we have at this time. We hope that you and your family are able to enjoy a relaxing and rejuvenating Thanksgiving Holiday this year, and we too will be stepping away from our offices to take time with our families as well.  We will be back in the office on Monday, November 28th as we kick off the second trimester.
