March 8th, HS Play, and LCC Trip:  As we discussed last week, the morning hours of Wednesday, March 8th will be field trip-based for both 7th and 8th grade students.  All students will begin their day in Check and Connect (CNC) class.  Prior to departure in CNC, both 7th and 8th grade students will engage in meaningful activities, which will include a presentation on theater etiquette for 7th grade and high school scheduling information for our 8th graders. From there, students will take specific direction from their CNC teachers for the morning hours.  7th graders will be walking over to the high school for a preview of the high school’s version of Into the Woods; 8th graders will be heading to Lansing Community College West Campus via GLPS transportation to visit the Career Preparation Center, which is a vocational opportunity for many students during 11th and 12th grade.  These will be great opportunities for both our 7th and 8th grade students. Students will have lunch when they return, and they will attend all classes on a modified schedule in the PM.

8th Grade Scheduling Presentation by GLHS Staff on March 9th: On March 9th, administrators and counselors from Grand Ledge High School will be coming over to provide all 8th grade students a presentation on scheduling for high school classes next year.  Our 8th graders will get a preview of this presentation–as noted above–on March 8th in CNC class as it can be a heavy lift for them.  All 8th graders will engage in this presentation in our media center via their Science classes.  Our 8th grade Science teachers and counselors will continue to support students with this process.  In subsequent newsletters, we will provide more information to our parents directly from Mrs. Tonya Rice, Assistant Principal at Grand Ledge High School.

7th Grade Scheduling Presentations:  We will be meeting with our current 7th graders to provide them with scheduling information for next year on Thursday, March 16th during Science classes in the media center.  Our conversation with 7th-grade students will be completely focused on signing up for elective-based classes.  Later in the spring, our team will be reviewing data to place students into accelerated Math and English classes for next year; information regarding the aforementioned will be shared with parents in late April/early May.  Students chosen for accelerated Math or English classes will be contacted by one of us during that time frame.

Lockdown Drill March 9th: As we discussed in great detail last week, our final mandatory lockdown drill will be on Thursday, March 9th.  We have communicated this to our students during lunchtime announcements; we will announce the lockdown drill again during morning announcements on the 9th as well.  This lockdown drill is required to be during a transitional time (i.e. passing time).

Lunchtime Concert March 3rd Rescheduled: Unfortunately, we will have to reschedule our lunch time concert that we referenced in last week’s newsletter; the performer is currently ill.  Once we have a new date, we will share it with our students and parents.

End of the 2nd Trimester - March 17: The end of the 2nd Trimester will be on March 17. Most students will keep their existing schedule, however, students who chose trimester electives will change to a new elective on March 20th. This schedule is already visible in PowerSchool and has been available since August. Unfortunately, schedule change requests cannot be honored. Students were placed in electives that they chose last spring and we have constructed the master schedule around these requests.

Joint Hayes/Beagle PTO Meetings: The next PTO meeting will be held on Tuesday, March 21st.  We welcome parents to attend our PTO meetings either in-person here at Beagle or virtually.  If interested in attending virtually, here is the link: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/82744686994
