Dear Beagle Middle School Parents,

Here are some important updates that we wanted to share at this time:

Thank You for Supporting the Food Drive–A Message from Mr. Jones: Beagle Middle School, you are amazing!  On Monday morning, we started our food drive with 704 items, just short of our goal of 800 items.  By the end of the day, we had collected 1,074 more items, bringing our final total to 1,778 items.  This is more than double our goal!  Your generosity has made a difference and will help people in the Grand Ledge community.  Awesome job showing your Comet PRIDE!  We thank our parents and students for their tremendous support this holiday season!  We also thank Mr. Jones and his CNC class for their efforts in facilitating this community-based event.

Shout Out to Choir Students, Staff, and Families: We thank our Choir students for putting on an amazing concert for the community on Tuesday evening.  We also greatly appreciate the support of our parents and community members for supporting our students; it was full house to say the least!  In addition, we would also like to thank both Mr. Daniel Dade, HS/MS Choir teacher, and Ms. Sophia Laskaris, substitute Choir teacher for Mrs. Burton, for their tremendous efforts in orchestrating this event.

Girls’ Basketball Tryouts: Begin on Monday, January 9th and will run all week.  7th grade will run from 2:45-4:45pm; 8th grade will run from 5-7pm.  Please be sure your child has a sports physical on file by this date.  Sports physicals can be brought to the first day of tryouts, if necessary.  Sports physicals are mandatory to participate in tryouts.

Winter Break: December 23rd-January 6th.  Classes resume on Monday, January 9th.

Winter Dance Planning Meeting:  Parents interested in supporting our PTO in the planning and preparation for the winter dance can join the planning committee on January 4th at 7pm at the Grand Ledge Library.  Mrs. Abby Taylor, Beagle’s PTO Activities Coordinator, will be facilitating these meetings.

January 16th–No School: Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day is preserved as a day of service and reflection in honor of Dr. King’s civil rights achievements.  Classes will resume on January 17th.

Winter NWEA: We will have more information regarding winter NWEA testing in subsequent newsletters after break, but we wanted to share at this time that testing will take place across two days: January 24th (Math) and January 26th (ELA).  This will be a change for our staff and students as previously students were assessed across multiple days in their Math and ELA classes during the school day.  From a parent’s perspective, it will be a normal school day; from a student’s perspective, testing will take place during the morning hours within CNC class, and then students will have lunch and attend all classes, sans CNC, later in the day on a modified schedule. Again, more specific information will be provided to both parents and students after break.  Our goal in testing across two days is to limit testing over multiple days during Math and ELA classes.  This change in testing practice will provide our students with more instructional opportunities in Math and ELA classes across the year.  We intend to use this revised testing schedule in the spring as well.

Joint Hayes/Beagle PTO Meetings: The next PTO meeting will be held on Tuesday, January 10th at 6:30 pm.  We welcome parents to attend our PTO meetings either in-person here at Beagle or virtually.  If interested in attending virtually, here is the link: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/82744686994

Students’ of the Week, Community, and Extra Curricular Resources:   To view our students of the week or to review additional community/extra curricular information on our webpage, then please click https://www.glcomets.net/ourschools/beagle-middle-school/ and then click on the appropriate icon on the left side of our homepage.

In closing, we wanted to take this opportunity to thank our parents for their continued support in the education of our children.  We cannot do this work without the support of our families and community members.  On behalf of the Beagle family, we hope that your holiday season is filled with peace and joy, and that you are able to connect with what matters the most in this world: family and friends.  Happy Holidays!

Take good care,

Dave and Eric
