Dear Hayes Parents,

Thank you for your support and patience over the past few weeks with scheduling, MSTEP, and now NWEA testing.  As Covid numbers continue to drop consistently in our area and across the state, we are excitedly preparing for next school year while ensuring a strong finish to this school year.  Again, thany you for your patience and support.

NWEA Testing Continues

This week, students took the reading portion of the NWEA assessment in their ELA classes.  Next week, students will complete the Math portion of NWEA in their Math classes.  As we stated last week, we are required by MDE to give the NWEA to all students, so we appreciate your help and in support in ensuring all of our students--both in-person and virtual--complete this assessment by the end of next week.

Summer Learning Opportunities

Grand Ledge Public Schools is excited to bring our students together in 1-2 week modules for experiential learning while teaching essential standards as well as supporting the kids’ social and emotional health.  Summer learning modules will begin June 28 and run 9:00-12:00, Monday through Friday!  Register for one week or all weeks or some weeks... registration needs to be done by May 28.  Grand Ledge Summer School

PSAT Scores--Update from College Board

PSAT 8 Score Release:  Students who participated in PSAT 8/9 or PSAT 10 will receive access beginning on May 17, 2021. Note: Some scores will be released later, for reasons that may include student participation in the extended PSAT testing window, the accommodated testing windows, the SAT makeup testing date(s), late receipt of answer sheets, missing information on the answer sheet, or other exceptional conditions that require additional attention. Scores for these students will be released daily as they become available. The information below explains how to obtain your PSAT 8 Scores.

School Material Drop-Off for Virtual Students

June 1-4 from 4-6pm will be school material drop-off for our virtual students.  Just as with the ELA novel drop off, there will be a table set up out side the main entrance.  Please drop off textbooks (mainly Algebra, Geometry, and some Social Stuides classes) during the designated time.  Right now, we do not have any information to share regarding the collection of school-issued chromebooks; however, we will share that information once we have it.  If you have an ELA novel lingering around, please feel free to drop it off too. Thank you for returning your student’s materials during this designated time frame.

Virtual Learning 2021-22

Dr. William Barnes, assistant superintendent for academic services, released information to our families across the district yesterday regarding the district’s plan for virtual learning next year.  While we are actively and excitedly preparing for full-on, five-days-per-week of in-person instruction next year as noted in Dr. Chapin’s communications, the district is also offering parents the opportunity for their student(s) to attend virtual if they choose to do so.  Virtual Learning 2021-22

Scheduling and Orientation Next Year

As we have been discussing, elective course requests are due in PowerSchool as of now. Over the next several weeks, we will be actively working on building student schedules. Student schedules will be released in late August. At this time, we cannot give firm dates for next year’s orientation due to the fact that Beagle will remain under construction through the month of August.  We will communicate with our families via email in August once we have more information regarding the progress of the construction.

Kona Ice

Kona Ice will be coming to Hayes on Thursdays over the next three weeks: May 27th, June 3rd, and June 10th.  Students will have the opportunity to purchase a Kona Ice during recess.  Cost ranges from $3-5.  Kona Ice works closely with our school-wide PBIS team here at Hayes, and a certain percentage of proceeds will go to supporting our PBIS team, which ultimately supports our students. We will remind students during morning and lunch announcements.

Theme Thursdays

Our PBIS team has organized “Theme Thursdays” for the last four weeks of the school year.  Staff and students are encouraged to join in with the fun together!  The schedule is as follows:

May 27th - Mismatch Day

June 3rd -  Pajama Day

June 10th - Hat Day

June 17th - GL Spirit Day

Well, those are all of the updates that we have at this time. Please feel free to reach out with questions or concerns.

Take care,

Dave and Eric
