February 19, 2021
Dear Hayes Parents,
It’s been a long week as we are ramping up for our limited in-person return to finish out the second trimester. We have a lot of announcements in this week’s newsletter, so we have broken them into sections for ease of reading.
Limited In-Person Return and Virtual-Only Communications
Over the past week, our second trimester limited in-person return families have received a great deal of information via email. The good news is that there will not be as many emails moving forward! In fact, the next email our limited in-person families and students will receive will be early next week with their student’s schedule for the return with a reminder about 7th grade orientation.
We will communicate with our second trimester virtual-only families towards the end of next week with a brief reminder that the daily schedule will change for all students beginning March 1st. Our in-person return and virtual students will follow the same schedule (times of classes), and the schedule (times of classes) is changing March 1st due to transportation needs within the district. Please remember that the Friday schedule (times of classes) will remain the same the duration of the 2nd trimester, and all students should be attending all classes every Friday, virtually.
As we have been sharing, an application for choosing in-person or virtual for the third trimester will be coming out soon to our parents. We know that many of you have been inquiring about this, and we thank you for your continued patience in waiting for this application to come out. We are hopeful that this application will be coming out at some point next week, so please stay tuned.
8th grade Black History Month Yard Sign Contest
All 8th graders had the opportunity to participate in a Yard Sign Contest celebrating Black History Month. The 8th Grade History teachers were impressed with the wide variety of important Black Americans who were profiled on the signs and the creative ways in which their achievements were celebrated: individuals selected ranged from Rosa Parks, Maya Angelou, and Martin Luther King, Jr., to Misty Copeland, Amanda Gorman, and Kizzmiekia Corbett. The following students were the top 8 finishers. Congratulations!
- Lacy Baker
- Keira Blackburn
- Brianna Craig
- Carson Daly
- Isabel Kelly
- Karson Kruger
- Ali Mans
- Bailey Tokar
Girls’ Basketball Updates
Tryouts for Girls’ basketball will be the week of March 8th. Coaches Hunt and Seratt will be returning this year, and there will also be additions to the coaching staff. The coaching staff is in the process of finalizing up logistics for the season, and more detailed information will be coming out soon. The Girls’ season will run through April 21st.
Grand Ledge Trap Team
A message from Coach Andy Brown: we will be starting the team this year for anyone in grades 6th-12th that has an interest in shooting trap clay targets. Shooters must have a hunter's education certificate or take the league-approved SAFE Certificate on their website.
We will be using the Capital Area Sportsman’s League Trap fields for all competitions, which will take place on Tuesdays at 6pm. Cost of clay birds are $3.00 per round of 25. We will shoot 2 rounds for a total of 50 birds per competition. Shooters are also responsible for supplying their own ammunition. This year we have a modified season which is longer so we can get all 5 weeks of shooting in due to covid-19.
Here is the link to get signed up www.miclaytarget.com. Once there, look for Clay Target Go! Click on Login for Coach and Athlete, and then choose Athletes(AMS). Then, create a profile and password. This is where you fill out all forms and pay for the league which costs $35.00. Our team ID number is gre391; you will need this to register. If you have questions, please feel free to reach out to coach Andy Brown 517-627-3627 or email GLcomets61@icloud.com. Mr. Kushman will also be supporting the team as an assistant coach, but please communicate with Coach Brown if you have questions. Key Dates: Registration ends 3-29-2021; first Shooting practice 4-6-2021.
That is all that we have for this week. Again, thank you for your continued patience and support in all of this. We hope you have a great weekend. Please reach out with questions or concerns.
