June 3, 2022

Thank You for Your Continued Support/Summer Resources: We thank our parents for continuing to have discussions at home regarding school appropriate behaviors as we near the end of the school year.  For most students, the end of the school year is extremely challenging because the consistent routine of school and the social atmosphere it provides comes to an abrupt halt, which causes an increase in anxiety and frustration.  A great way to support children through this transition time is to register them for various activities, clubs, sports camps, etc., and many of these aforementioned activities within the community begin immediately in June, intentionally, to support students into the summer transition. The Grand Ledge District Library, Grand Ledge Community Recreation, and DeWitt Area Recreation Authority (DARA) are all great resources to find engaging, team-based, and often outdoor activities for children of all ages. Finally, Woldumar Nature Center is also something to consider.

Chromebook Return: Students will be expected to turn in their assigned Chromebooks and chargers during Check and Connect classes beginning June 9th. Chromebooks must be returned with chargers and cases (if your student took a case). Please send a check made out to Grand Ledge Public Schools to cover the cost of any broken/missing pieces when the Chromebook is returned. Here are the fees: missing charger: $35, missing chromebook: $270, damaged chromebook: $50-$270, depending on the extent of the damage.

For 8th Grade Parents–High School Test Out in August: If you are interested in having your current 8th grader student test out of specific high school classes for next year, then please use this link for more information: https://www.glcomets.net/ourschools/grand-ledge-high-school/counselingstudent-services/course-opportunites--glhs/#testingout

June 15th End of Year Celebration (Big Fun Day):  Our last day of school is June 15th, which is a half-day, and we plan on celebrating all of our students with a Big Fun Day filled with inflatable obstacle courses; tug of war; laser tag; and a gaggle of additional fun, outdoor activities.  This has been a tradition at the middle level for the past decade (prior to COVID), and we intend on having even more activities for our students this year.  There will be more detailed information in subsequent newsletters.

MSTEP Scores: MSTEP scores take a great deal of time to process, so your student’s MSTEP results will not be available until early fall.  MSTEP scores can be accessed through Parent Portal by clicking on School Net, Standardized Tests, and then using the filter to identify the appropriate school year.  Again, these results will not be available until the fall.

8th Grade PSAT Scores:  While College Board will not be releasing 8th grade student PSAT scores to our school until June 21st, scores are available to students and parents.  To view scores, students will need to create a College Board account using the following link: https://satsuite.collegeboard.org/psat-8-9/scores.  Please note that since scores have not been released to the school yet, we cannot look up scores for parents or students.  If you have any technical issues in looking up your child’s scores, then please call College Board directly at 866-870-3127 as they can provide direct assistance.   Next fall, these scores will be available to parents via Parent Portal within PowerSchool, and the process to obtain these scores in Parent Portal is the same for NWEA and MSTEP scores as described above.

Students Leaving Grand Ledge:  If your student will not be returning to GLPS for the 2022-23 school year, then please email Joan Pedraza at pedrazaj@glcomets.net, providing your student’s name and why they will not be returning.

Medication Pick Up Dates & Times: It’s that time of the year again. This is just a friendly reminder to pick up your child’s medication or medical supplies from the main office.  Pick up will be available Monday the 13th (full day), Tuesday the 14th (full day), and Wednesday the 15th (which is a half-day) during school hours, also Thursday the 16th and Friday the 17th from 8 am to 1 pm.
